sorry to bump an old thread but does anyone know where you can get the black key shell like pictured in FDnewbies post? (The black fob with the lock/unlock button)

I have been looking for some time and still haven’t found one

The driver side door lock actuator I'm sure I can find & get, but I'd have to look up the part #, and pay the Mazda Japan fee, then ship it over...I'm not sure that's worthwhile and/or smart, when the DEI compact door lock actuator (Part # (A)524N) works FLAWLESSLY in our FDs, and is only $24.99

As for the JDM keyfobs, I can do even better than that I can get the COMPLETE FD-specific OEM keyless entry accessory (b/c that's what it is...an accessory), plug 'n play (takes about 2 hrs to install), compatible w/ FDs of ALL years, including the module and not one but TWO keyfobs, utilizing a radio frequency I believe (vs infra-red), allowing for greater range. The ONLY thing is, I dunno anyone who's tried it in a LHD FD to date.

If anyone's interested in giving this a shot very soon, lemme know, as if it works, I have a feeling a lot of FD owners will wanna jump on this - and of course, I'd be more than happy to run a GB on 'em

Thanks!

You have to buy the whole kit to get the key fob. Unless you can find someone selling a used one.

Here is a link to one for sale but I'm sure you already know about the kits.

Actually, I lied. I just remembered I bought a fob from MATEY MARCUS READ. I'll have to find it and give you the part number.

Hey, I just came across one here for sale: https://item.rakuten.co.jp/auc-auto-wear/ma127iac/
I just saw another last week for about $75 less, so it may be worth shopping around. Part number for the kit is: F138-V7-600
Use buyee or some similar forwarding service to pay for it and they'll get it to you in about a week or so.

My local mechanic happened to have the same OEM kit on hand so I had them install it since it's easy (on RHD cars at least). Works fine, like you'd expect from OEM. But the buttons are kind of small and the activation range is short. No real complaints other than range.

I'm currently using a system with remote start (that works decently) and also keyless entry. It also unlocks when I'm 2 meters or 6 feet near the car, and locks automatically.
