no, I would say something like

I - 92-93
II - 94-95 (not sure how close the version II change followed the JDM, could have been late 93)
III/IV hybrid - 96-98 (with the last oz-spec FD actually rolling out of a dealership in 99)

I PM'd a 98 oz-spec owner to verify - and, indeed, the same version III configuration was still being used in 98.

other than the whale tail, version III has a couple of small interior changes/downgrades over the II - notably the rear-vision mirror changed (got extra support - two stays instead of one. This is why you can't use the optional mazdaspeed 'cf' mirror cover on older cars) and there was a tasty momo wheel used in some cars.

The R-S replaced the type R (which made a come back, along side the RS, in the version V run), and the RZ package (obviously the base for the australian SP cars) was the first to use the '17" brakes'.

Hi, Sorry... I think its a little late to add to this thread but the AUS delievered Series 7 does have round tail lights, and the little 2 post wing like the Japanese Version... There is also a guy that lives in my area with a 100% stock Series 7 AUS delievered version and it also has this wing and round tail lights... the AUS version has a bigger number plate section that has red lights on either side.. thats how you can usually tell its a AUS version
