3rd gen driveshaft question
3rd gen driveshaft question
The front universal joint is out on my cym project . My question is . Is the front universal a replaceable item on the front of the driveshaft . The reason im asking is because ive heard that they werent replaceable. please drop me a pm if you know thanks greg
The stock u-joints are not replacable. Mazdatrix sells a replacement shaft with replacable u-joints for less money than the stock part. I've been using it on my single-turbo for a while with no problems.

99% of new cars come w/ SEALED FOR LIVE universals and bearings (b/k its cheaper for the mfgr.) most of witch are also "NOT REPLACABLE" even the driveshaft on my 1973 Mercedes 280sel had sealed non-replaceable universals. Any driveline repair shop can cut the "non-replacable" universals off and replace them with std TRW universals w/ replacable yokes & bearings. To have my MBZ driveshaft rebuilt w/TRW universals cost around $250 including Balancing and R&R.
