I just pulled my 93 FD out of the garage after a 3 year hibernation. Looks like the alternator died while it was sitting and I think the old gas is making it backfire, but there was no smoke on startup. What is the easiest way to drain the old gas so that I can put some fresh juice in it?

Other things that should be on your list:
Replace the fuel filter while the tank is drained, less mess that way.
Replace the sock on the fuel pump as it is UNDOUBTABLY clogged/gummed.
Send the fuel injectors off to be cleaned (i prefer witchhunter.com).
Check all hoses and wiring for evidence of rodent damage.

I hope your seals aren't leaking like mine were. Watch those very carefully. Depending on the environment of where it was stored a lot of damage can occur. During the day when it gets hot the moisture pushes out into the rubber seals, then at night when it gets cold the moisture is sucked back in. Somehow it shrinks and damages seals much more quickly than daily driving.
Also I would be careful about the radiator. My suggestion is to flush it, don't just change it. Use some prestone radiator flush and check what you find in the bucket. If it looks sketchy replace the radiator, water pump and hoses if necessary.
