3" V-Band clamp nut thread/pitch

Does anyone know what size the fixings are that typically come with 3" V-band exhaust clamps? I know they take a 1/2" socket, but nothing beyond that...

You'll need to get a thread gauge and measure it. Hopefully it's metric but they are all over the place.

Might be easier just to get new clamps.

Cheers guys,

I've bought a new clamp but it was sent with a Nyloc nut! I wanted to replace it with something more sensible.

I'd wager it 1/4 x 20, that's what I've found in 1/2" hex, haven't stumbled across metric in clamps at all I must say. I'd try someplace that caters to trucks to buy the silver plated tight nuts. Someone did try to supply a nylock clamp to me sometime ago, funnily enough, they found a proper one when I told them to FO with that!

Just realized, I've got some 1/4" nylon UNC bolts on the brain atm and led you up the garden path, if it's 1/4", it will of course be UNF and 28 tpi!!

If all else fails, - and they won't sell just a nut, the usual motorsport suppliers over there should have silver k-nuts or jetnuts that are used on carbon/carbon brakes, they'll be a quid or two each, only 3/8 hex, so will probably benefit from a stainless washer underneath.....must use antiseize on first installation, otherwise tears will ensue, as they have deformed threads in the nut for locking.

Lol, just ordered some UNC copper nuts. I’ll send them back for UNF.

Parts shops here ain’t what they used to be, fixings wise eBay is king now.
