3 belts? 2 belts? what? whats up with that?

ok, so I stopped at a bunch of autoparts stores and they kept telling me I have three belts.... but I don't.. I have two... let me count, yup one two... so I had to pull the alt/airpump belt off and have them match it, which they got close and now I'm off to the auto store again, to get a bigger belt..

are the stores just wrong? or is there something different about mine? I mean I have my airpump, a/c, p/s, w/p, and crank.... its all there....

I haven't had a chance to go by the dealer because I want a certain brand belt that they don't carry.

Same here except I just bought all three without thinking.

FD3S2005 06-07-07 10:09 PM

i think i got both of the belt numbers let me go cheak

ok whell correct me if im wrong because i got the plastic thing the belts come wraped in.. one of the is 505030 the other is 5060410 thats what i got for my car when both belts broke and then replaced them then after i needed another one because of the airpump removal

They probably list three belts because of the "a/c delete" belt. It's a shorter belt so your PS will still work if you take the A/C out. There are belt routing diagram stickers on the underside of factory hoods that show this.

NAPA listed 3 belts... the difference was between an auto and a manual trans, one of the belts (I can't remember which) is the same on both, and the other one is different... That's what I found when I replaced the belts on my brother's 94.

I asked at autozone for the 95 rx7 and they listed two belts, going to attempt to install it soon we'll see what happens

From the parts catalog

6pk-920 (w/power steering)
6pk-1045 (w/air cond)
5pk-1310 (auto)
5pk-1355 (manual)

Can some one give me the belt number ( one w/o a/c and still ps.)

RotaryResurrection 06-11-07 10:56 PM

The auto air pump is smaller diameter than the manual air pump, so the belt is different lengths. Some stores also list w/ or w/o a/c, and so there is another option. All FD's had only 2 belts.

I concur with RotaryResurrection's explanation.

got yeah,

I'll run out to the garage and get the belts that I used, I installed them yesterday and they fit fine....

P.S. if I forget, PM me and I'll send them to you.

NAPA listed 3 belts when I went in to replace them.

* alt belt
* p/s + a/c belt
* p/s belt

we've established that already, I just didn't know why, or if my motor was from a different year...

I told them to give me the "longer" belt and the second longest belt.... and they were a "close" match to what was on there before... they were the original belts and they didn't have them in stock so I had them give me the next size up, which was about 1" longer which was fine....

what make belts should i use?mine are frayed and need to be replaced before they pop..mazda?aftermarket? and how much? thanks

joeydinc 06-13-07 04:08 PM

The "factory" ones are just going to be what ever that mazda or region sells... Not like the thermostat.

Personally I use a the Goodyear Gatorbacks, they they work very well.. I've used them on MANY different cars and they are resistant to stretching as well.
