3-4 psi from idle to redline, every gear

I have been searching and did a little diagnosis, mostly visual so far. I wonder what anyone knows about this or if they have fixed this type of problem before.

This is what happens:

3-4 psi from idle to redline in every gear. This happens all the time, never lower or higher. My transition is working and the car pulls w/ the secondary all the way to redline. I cannot hear any leaks in the system, and I just installed an efini y-pipe today, but the problem is still there like I had assumed it would be.

I read how the solenoids won't work without 7psi, but my transition at 4500 is felt and the car pulls harder, but the boost may only change from 3psi up to 4psi. basically no boost pressure change. the car runs as if i had installed a boost controller for 3psi.

Only mods are DP, catback, and Airpump removed. I did the silicone hose job and it was running perfectly fine.

This problem started when I was driving around on Thursday. It was working fine when I had started the car for the drive.

I am guessing the wastegate is opening to soon or that their is a leak at the BOV hose that i cannot hear?? Everything sounds perfectly normal, but the car won't boost past 4psi.

Hmmmm

What does the boost pattern look like through redline? It sounds to me that you have a boost leak somewhere, not a solenoid problem. Another thing could be that your wastegate actuator is opened up too much, allowing too much exhaust gas to bypass the turbos.

Start out with that guide.

or a clogged cat....

unscrew the front 2 bolts betw the cat and the downpipe and shine a flashlight into the cat to see if it looks clogged. a clogged cat will look like a shower drain with LOTS of hair in it. a good cat will look like a mesh screen.

If you are just listening for boost leaks inside the cabin, thats not good enough. Go dig through the engine bay (especially the intercooler hoses) and look for one thats cracked.
This means taking them off and bending them to see if the crack opens up.

Thumbs up Fixed It!!

I found the problem. It was indeed a boost leak. The hose going from the y-pipe to the intecooler started to split. I could absolutely not hear the darn thing leaking though(that's what threw me off). I made a temp modification using an old intake pipe from a civic. It worked for a few minutes, but I should have just duct taped around the split hose. Oh well, now I know it is just minor and will be able to sleep well, and be happy I have an RX-7 nearing 300hp when I get it fixed! =)

I just added an efini y-pipe and Blitz SUS intake w/the polished hard pipe kit. The turbos sound good, they just don't do much at the moment. hehe

so how do you know you have a car with close to 300hp again? i dont see any type of ecu/fuel to support very much more boost unless you have more items then in your sig. a greddy Apex'i boost gauge, Greddy T.T., Momo racing seat, suede racing wheel, efini Y-pipe, 6-way JDM engine damper, Infinity H.I.D. lights, KYB shock/spring combo 1.5" does not give any more power at all and if you only have a dp (well gutted precat)+catback+intake. i guess you could raise the boost to about 12psi or even more but i would recommend against doing that. then again i dont see any kind of boost controller... are you using your butt dyno to get the 300hp numbers?

Well, I said NEARING 300hp...at the FLYWHEEL. I am guessing that I must be making an extra 35-38 hp over stock, which would put me at 290-293. Then i want to run 13 psi this winter with a poppet MBC. Then I should be seeing 300+ easy.

10 for intake

10 for DP

10 for cat back

5-8 for y-pipe (I heard people claimed from dyno results)

But I could have aslo meant 280 hp, and that would be nearing 300hp also.

WTF WHY DO YOU CARE!? HAHA

I'm glad you were able to sort it out! I kinda had a feeling it was a boost leak seeing as how you had a pretty consistent boost pattern.
