Exclamation 2nd Turbo not spooling HELP !!

I posted a while back saying it seemed like my 3rd gen was losing power under acceleration.
Now its gotten worse & happening all the time when the motor reaches operating temp.
Well Ive been looking for a pattern & it seems like the problem I was having was intermittent.
Now the problem seems to have a pattern, hoping someone can help..
This is what the car is doin..
When its cold, under 160 on the temp gauge. Both turbos spool fine, good power, pulls hard..
Now when the car warms up the 2nd turbo wont spool.
The 1st turbo spools up then @ around 4500 RPM when the 2nd should kick in, it flat lines, like the 2nd dont spool @ all.
I spoke to someone that said there are some solenoids that are heat sensitive that could be causing my problem,
Can someone confirm this or tell me where they are located, what they do, how to diagnose & where to get replacments if thats my problem..
Any help would greatly be appreciated ..
Thanx in advance guyz ..

I would change both turbo control solenoids. One is in the rack and the other is mounted on the ACV.

The FAQ thread stickied in this forum has a link to a good resource for troubleshooting turbo issues. Check it out. Its helped me out many times in the past.

Does sound like you have a solenoid that is heating up & then failing when warm.
Shouldn`t be too hard to find the culprit since it is temp related.

I was thinking along the same lines.

Get a long hard handled driver or mech stethoscope and see if they click when you turn the key on and off. The turbo control actuator should also move when you key on and off when you have pressure and vac in the respective tanks (after boosting and running).

I suppose the charge relief valve and charge control valve could also prevent secondary boost from entering the intake.

Good luck.

Thanx Alex
Does anyone know where the solenoids are located. Are they the ones that are side by side on top of the wheel well ? Any pics by chance, I know its a long shot .. :-)

The solenoids are on top of the engine in a metal rack. They are buried under the black plastic pressure tank behind the alternator & extend back under the UIM. There is also another attached to the ACV under the UIM as another poster here stated. There are 2 others ( dual unit ) attached together under the UIM.

See this link on a pic of the valves & solenoids & how to check.

See this link for troubleshooting the turbo system. Go down to the "T" section for turbo problem troubleshooting. You will learn a great deal on how they work. Helped me a bunch.

The reason that we are recommending the FAQ to you is that when the turbo system starts acting goofy, it is difficult to say " Oh yeah! I know EXACTLY what the problem is. Look specifically at this or that". Because the turbo system is a little complex, you usually end up checking several pieces & things. Good luck in fixing your problem. It shouldn`t be too hard as MANY others have had to do it also in the past.

My FD has a similar problem, the warmer the weather is, the more often the 2nd turbo refuses to spool.
I'm thinking about upgrading from the stock IC.
