2nd Oil cooler that important??
2nd Oil cooler that important??
I have the PEP package and I was thinking of adding the second oil cooler. Presently, the passenger side duct in the front bumper is closed off.
First, is the second cooler that important...I do the occasional Auto X o/w no track time.
Second, anyone have any idea on cost and how hard it is to install???
thanks!

I don't know how hard it is to install it, but I can say that the cost is not that high. I think its like 150-200 to add one. I have the R2 on my 7, so I haven't put one on, but I have read about it. Good luck.
the only good answer I have for you is how much they are...
to completly replace your oil cooler system with two new upgraded coolers is $895
to just add a second upgraded cooler is $695
the upgraded cooler is much bigger than stock and comes with braided stainless steal lines.
I got that from: http://www.crookedwillow.com/oilcool.htm
I've been told that it isn't difficult, but I've never done it, or seen anyone do it... or read a write-up about it.
I guess the necessity of doing something like this depends on your use of the car... lots of revs and engine heat might warrant it. If you just drive around town, I would bet it's not incredibly necessary. Someone else brought up a good point on this topic which is that the rotary engine uses oil differently than a piston engine, and that our oil tends to get really hot which makes it more likely to break down. In that respect, it may be worth looking in to.
Personaly, I'd like to do this, but it's low on my list of priorities.
anyone else that has more knowledge on the suject, feel free to chime in...

I can tell you right now, it's on the TOP of my list of priorities.
Even with the nice cool temps up here, I touched my OC after doing some spirited driving around the mountains with a few of the guys here, and it was HOT! I mean SO hot, that I couldn't even touch it for more than a fraction of a second. I nearly burned myself touching it. I couldn't believe it. I really couldn't.
