25psi stock twin sequentials!

my mate took the boost control solenoid out of his Efini, drove to the Frankston Freeway, put the pedal to the metal, watched the boost guage go to 25psi, said it was G-Force the likes of which he'd never even dreamed of experiencing, the OS Giken 2plater clutch started slipping, and BANG. the engine **** itself.

the engine had problems and was going to be rebuilt anyway, so he figured "why not kill it in style?"

he's probably just made the cost of the rebuild he was going to get anyway several thousand dollars more expensive than it would have been otherwise....but at least he had fun i s'pose....

so there you go, the stock twin turbos can handle up to 25psi,
and that's about the time a twin plate OS Giken clutch/flywheel starts slipping too.

would love to have felt the G's though...

here's a pic of the efini if anyone wants a gander....

he had it dynoed b4 it first started getting terminal problems, but it was pissing boost out from somewhere/everywhere, and the 2nd turbo just did not want to work.

they let it cool down for 30mins, and had another run on the dyno (theorizing that heat was causing hoses to become soft and vent boost or something) and the 2nd turbo worked...it made 168kw at the back wheels, and was still going up, up, up...but then it went fucked again and lost all boost and the power dropped off. we think it was making about 240-250kw at the back wheels...it was a beast.

No-one could figure out what had been done to it, it arrived from Japan the way it was, we know that RE Amemiya had tuned the car for some businessman who raced it on the weekends, so it was prolly quite worked internally...

but it is dead now, so its all moot. Big single turbo's going on now.

actually, a dyno wont be too impressive. 25 psi is WAAAY beyond the efficiency range of the turbos. these turbos will max out at about 17 or 18 psi. so technically, an FD at 25 psi is not making any more power than one running 18 psi.

have i ever seen an FD on stock twins run or dyno at 25 psi?? no. that is just in theory.

supra wing

yeah, when i owned that car, i tried to remove the wing, but the bolts holding it in were totally rusted and wouldn't budge, so i gave up. it actually grows on you after awhile, despite being the most ostentatious piece of fibreglass on the planet Earth.

i prefer efini's with no wing at all myself...like Steve Ciriani's FD (the black one, with black wheels, no wing, not even a little lip) looks sleek, mean & vicious.

btw, it is in Australia, not the USA.
people import them here through a "Race/Rally" loophole in government legislation, where if u state u are only using the car to race, u don't have to pay duties, taxes, or get the car complied or any of that ****, so you can get an FD in the country for like $8000-$9000AU ($4500US) that is how much that efini cost me roughly. and it was modded off its ****!

the only problem is you can't legally drive on the roads, so u have to do a runner if the police wanna pull u over.

one of my friends put the compliance plates from a 1990 S% wreck that he bought for $1000 into an FD he imported in the manner i described above, so as far as the govt knows, his FD is an FC HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

that kinda thing is rife over here, or at least it was....

I don't care if the bolts are rusted...cut the wing off!

That sounds like a damn good deal to import an FD like that, especially bringing in a modded one. Sweet.
