Silver State Challenge

Well it seems like hardly anyone has entered this realm.

I need a few sponsors to assist my team and I of averaging 200mph in the Silver State Challenge. I can provide full Internet Marketing for those who donate over $5,000 in addition to having your company name on my car. If you are interested in sponsorship or becoming a part of my race team, PM me for more information.

Thanks,

Zgn

I have hit 175 in my car, I was racing a mustang. My car felt like it had a lot more in it as well. I actually had a conversation with steve kan about this one time. He feels that given the aerodynamics of our car( especially if lowered) "should be able to hit 200" with the HP some of us are making. If i remember correctly i though he said the stock tranny should run out at just about 200mph.

**** it though, you guys wanna impress me?? Buy a flux capacitor

Like some have pointed out, it takes quite a bit of power to hit 200MPH.. and gearing has to be there.. Also, small error will become noticeable when speed increases.. Like some said regarding your speedo, difference in tire size, etc.. Hence, you really need GPS speedo.

I'm sure I could put some tiny *** "Dubs" on my FD and hit 150MPH in 10 secs by what my speedo reads.. but that doesn't mean I'm going 150MPH.. LOL!

i probably know someone that might let me borrow theirs so ill have to see if he wouldnt mind. as far as my wheels there 245/17 in the front and 285/17 (barely itching out from the rear fender) in the back.

but i will video it just that i would like to see it! (BTW its with the low 12lbs in the sig then ill do the 478 to see the difference)

ADAM I GOTTA QUESTION FOR YA. even though the smaller the air pressure in the tire the more the engine has to push the car and use more energy but if the tire pressure is too high then even though the car will accelerate alot faster will it grip the road enough to not worry about grip in a fast speed. so how about the tire pressure?

245/17 and 285/17?? That tells me nothing about diameter.. Also what tires are you using??

My attorney advises me to take the 5th on that, as I don't want to be held liable for offering advice on this type of activity . Best to ask a "pro" about tire pressures.

darkphantom, you have to many people against you at this point to prove anything...like adamc said, you contradict everything you say...fact of the matter is, cant reach 200 on stock gears...simple

I don't own an FD, but is it possible to hit 8000 rpm in 5th gear?

so according to your gear speed ratio calculator. if i beef up my 13b in my first gen and change out the transmission to a second gen of the same year of the engine i put in it i should get well over 200 mph. at 8000rpm does that really sound right. right now i get to about 135mph and thats scary so i just slowly cut back the speed. but 200mph in a first gen that would be down right stupid with out doing suspension.

kind of a scary though don't you'll think

Adjust the aerodynamics to produce a downward lift coefficient and you will incur more drag. The extra drag will really add to the amount of torque required to drive a car *stably* at such high speeds. Ride height is also a major factor - you'd need really stiff springs and very low ground clearance to improve aerodynamics. Which is why most street cars with 500hp are not safe to drive at top speed - the aerodynamics simply aren't built for doing it safely.

Anyway, enough armchair BS. It takes a lot of car, more than just engine.

Dave
sounds like we should be less worried about doing 200mph!

and every program i have says the fd will go 201mph.
desktop dyno and everything. maybe 200.66 is good enough.

This seems like nothing but a pissing match to me... I don't see any reason into wanting to go 200mph, or even doing it. It's stupid and crazy, you can hurt someone else or even yourself if something went wrong. Just stating my opinion, interesting/amusing thread I can say for the least.

what about at a track? 200mph depending on tuning is not that far from unreal and on closed courses it would not be that dangerous.

I can understand on a closed course, but don't know where you would go 200mph besides bonneville?

Been 9000 rpm in 5th with a 4.30 final drive and a 25 iinch tire.
I know of a couple others who have done over 8000 rpm in 5th with 4.10 final drives. Rx-7's accelerates in 5th quicker than it does in 3rd when you got the power to do so.

I did the inaugural Gold Rush Challenge (sister to the Silver State Challenge) during the weekend just following 9/11, in my Mercedes wagon at 115 MPH, which means the fastest I was allowed was 130 MPH, and the slowest 100 MPH.

At 200 MPH or the Unlimited class you're going to have to install ALOT of safety items, and I hope you already have a racing license or history of driving a car at these speeds.

Also, this class runs last because too many of the DNF and spew oil, anti-freeze and debris on the road . . .

Good luck!!!

:-) neil

PS: I have safely hit 170 at the track . . .

Remember, just because your gears let you go to 200.66 mph, doesn't mean you'll get there. You need an engine capable of meeting or exceeding that mark.

I was asking for the aspect ratio of the 245/17 and the 285/17 mentioned above.
