well here is where it starts...
first of all, you cant get past 180 cause the speed limiter wont let you go above 178.
i used a top speed calculator to find out top speeds in each gear with the stock gear ratios and this is the result-
1st: 37mph
2nd: 64mph
3rd: 94mph
4th: 130mph
5th: 182mph
so adamc is 100 percent correct
try it yourself----(the ones already pluged in are for a 240sx, just fill in your ratios and wat not to figure out your top speed or the stocks top speed):

you can get all your facts from gearing and all this **** but ive done so many top speed runs against 4 bikes, z06 that ive know how fast & what my car can do. the first bike i ran up against i hit 187mph around a really high rpm (either 7k or really close to it) knowing that i was close to topping out. that was with 420-415hp. now with 450 i did another run against a shelby gt500 and @ 170 i had plenty of more rpms to hit 200easily + the needle was moving fast enough to get there in a short amount of time. All the runs i do usually start between 60-60mph so im already in the 100mph range!
unless you actually do it you wouldnt know!
AND YES EVEN THOUGH YOU NEED HP TO REACH THESE SPEEDS 80% is baised on the gearing, i think the thing that prevents us from going certain speeds is the fact that other cars there final gear is 3.4 (vette) 2.7?? ( mustang) and our is a small *** 4.3-4.1
and just for the record soon i will mount a camera to the speedo to shut you guys up!

Does anyone remember the FD cannon ball run on the Wangan? Wasn't Amemiya's FD going well over 300kmh (186mph)? Then again, his FD had all those fancy spoilers, splitters, diffusers, etc etc. And of course it was completely built and driven on a highway as smooth as glass.

186 MP/H = 297.6 KM/H
the conversion factor is 1.6 1.6 Km = 1 mile
and where you get that smooth as glass bullshit is beyond me the Wangan might be smooth on 10' x 10' section but over a 20'~40 ' length it has undulations in the road that will through you quite quickly intoa guard rail or even air borne.

It's funny when people don't understand what limits top speed.
There are TWO factors that limit your top speed, HP and gearing.
If you don't have the power, you won't make the speed, simple enough.
If your gearing is too short, you'll be bouncing off the rev limiter before your engine stops pulling. That will limit your top speed and possibly cause your engine to blow up.
If your gearing is too tall, you won't make the top speed you're capable of, but you'll be close.
Your optimal top speed, which is the fastest the car will ever go, occurs when the engine stops being able to pull anymore right at the hp power peak rpm. That means the engine is trying to pull the car with all its might, but it just can't anymore.
Remember, gearing isn't a theory, it can be proven through simple mathematical equations.

I have hit 175mph NO PROBLEM before. I could have kept on going.... there was plenty of road left BUT the cop that I blew by at a CLOCKED 152mph made me stop..... lol
It is definitely possible with the right gearing. My new Ford 8.8" rearend will have 4.33 gears so I won't be able to reach 200mph. If the cop wouldn't have been there I would have kept on truckin'.

bryant first off i have to say.. WHY! it was one thing i looked foward to seeing in threads you responded in*yes im a little bit late*.
ive BEEN 200 but not in the fd.
rich *** friend has a GT500 that he let me whomp on one night in myrtle beach while he was **** *** drunk in the passenger seat. and all i have to say for anyone that tries it off the track... your a ******* maniac. the second i hit 200 i put it into neutral and just waited to go back down to non flying speeds. not to mention the second i was slow enough to turn safely there was a dead body on the other side of the road.

Aerodynamics has no bearing on the top speed other than keeping your car planted and fighting against the engine. Though for the second one, that falls under the realm of having enough power.
Yeah, funny. What do YOU think limits top speed, tough guy?

This thread is hilarious!!
Darkphantom, before you go out and do your 200+MPH run and document.. make sure to go pick up a GPS that shows speed in MPH so NO one here will contradict afterwards.
Like some have pointed out, it takes quite a bit of power to hit 200MPH.. and gearing has to be there.. Also, small error will become noticeable when speed increases.. Like some said regarding your speedo, difference in tire size, etc.. Hence, you really need GPS speedo.
I'm sure I could put some tiny *** "Dubs" on my FD and hit 150MPH in 10 secs by what my speedo reads.. but that doesn't mean I'm going 150MPH.. LOL!
