somehow I found it on auto trader! the only thing really wrong with it is the rear main was leaking, and that is getting fixed today. I went ahead and and put a new Exedy clutch in as well.

Nope. Does not seem to be stopping people though. I suspect many of them are coming through Canada, where they can be legally imported because they are over 15 years old. Loose registration laws in some (mostly southern) states allows them to be registered in the US. (Which does not make them legal, and may generate some nasty surprises for future out-of-state buyers.)
The are probably bought at Japanese auctions for a $2-$4k, shipped for about $1k, and sold here for $15k+, which is a nice markup.
Given the quantity of them it may not be long before the feds get interested. They will not be very hard to find through a simple database search either.

^ Yup, I've heard stories about people running into some unpleasant surprises when it comes to titling, registering, and insuring these cars. And as also mentioned, when it comes time to do a re-sale, that could be another unpleasant surprise. I hope these buyers are checking things out and making sure of these details before plucking their $$$ down.

There have been some 'dealers' in the classifieds but they have mostly disappeared because questions about legality were making their lives a little tiresome. All seemed to be very slippery characters.

gt35r
yeah i really hope to get the gt35r ordered here in a couple weeks.....
I didn't have any problems getting my car registered, actually all of the ladies at the dmv were in love with it....insurance wasn't a problem either.

Welcome
First off, welcome to the forum. You will find 'tons' of useful info on this site.
Please do us all a favor and thoroughly 'search' before posting "what is this", or "how do I do this" threads...
Also, please spend copious amounts of time reading the FAQ 'sticky' at the top of the page.
Almost everything you want to do to your FD has been done by someone else already...
Again, congrats on your purchase.
