somehow I found it on auto trader! the only thing really wrong with it is the rear main was leaking, and that is getting fixed today. I went ahead and and put a new Exedy clutch in as well.

congrats. I have heard about you from Dustin. Also another friend of mine said he saw your car.

Is Dustin going to do a gt35r kit on it? I may sell my 4094 kit soon so there is another option for you.

Nope. Does not seem to be stopping people though. I suspect many of them are coming through Canada, where they can be legally imported because they are over 15 years old. Loose registration laws in some (mostly southern) states allows them to be registered in the US. (Which does not make them legal, and may generate some nasty surprises for future out-of-state buyers.)

The are probably bought at Japanese auctions for a $2-$4k, shipped for about $1k, and sold here for $15k+, which is a nice markup.

Given the quantity of them it may not be long before the feds get interested. They will not be very hard to find through a simple database search either.

^ Yup, I've heard stories about people running into some unpleasant surprises when it comes to titling, registering, and insuring these cars. And as also mentioned, when it comes time to do a re-sale, that could be another unpleasant surprise. I hope these buyers are checking things out and making sure of these details before plucking their $$$ down.

Judging by some recent posts by owners, it is mostly clueless kids who think they got a great deal after paying $18k for a car that sells for $10k in Canada. The seller usually supplies some dodgy registration paperwork from a southern state (Florida seems to be the most common).

There have been some 'dealers' in the classifieds but they have mostly disappeared because questions about legality were making their lives a little tiresome. All seemed to be very slippery characters.

Welcome

First off, welcome to the forum. You will find 'tons' of useful info on this site.

Please do us all a favor and thoroughly 'search' before posting "what is this", or "how do I do this" threads...

Also, please spend copious amounts of time reading the FAQ 'sticky' at the top of the page.

Almost everything you want to do to your FD has been done by someone else already...

Again, congrats on your purchase.

Charlie

I'm surprised. Didn't anyone ask for a VIN# and didn't it come back as a non-U.S. car?
