He may be making an honest mistake. There were new FD's which were sold in 1996. I have a full line Mazda sales brochure that shows all the '96 models, and there's a page for the FD in it. However the cars that were sold in '96 were leftover '95 models. They were not considered part of the '96 model year, and they don't have the OBD II system that was required for '96 cars.

Yep yep.
Officially, Mazda never sold any 96 production FDs in the states. They were all left over 95s.

I have seen pictures of Right hand Drive 1996 cars in the US. You probably can import up to 1998 since they are all the same up to then. Just changing over glass, emissions, and bumpers to achieve correct legal status.

The one I saw was 1996 White with side marker lights in the fenders near the door. It was definitely a right hand drive car.

Tim

PS VIN number should be a dead giveaway.

You can import anything into this country, and with enough time and money (well, with a LOT of money ), make it street legal, but again, Mazda didn't officially manufacter any 1996 US bound FDs.

If the 10th digit is an S, then it is a 95. If they 10th digit is a T, then it is a 1996.
