1994 overheating?
1994 overheating?
Ok, I searched through some of the threads, educated myself on the usual operating temps of these cars as I'm new to rotaries.
Today I was running some errands, maybe a few miles each time of stop and go driving, restarting while still hot.
I noticed at one point the gauge go up to 240F and I started driving, it began dropping rapidly. Seemed to never go below 180F. Every time I would stop and sit at a light or parked, it would rise back up. Mind you, the stock gauge didn't move at all.
When I got home I popped the hood to keep an eye on things and the fan on the PS only seemed to go on at around 238F, would stay on for a minute until temp dropped to around 220F and then go off. I think it only recovered this well because the hood was wide open.
I have an all aluminum aftermarket rad(not sure of brand), new hoses, aftermarket AST. Just an intake and exhaust as far as power mods.
Any advice guys? I'd appreciate the help.

The fans should kick on around 221F on low speed *if* your relays are working properly. I would first verify that your fans are coming on at 221F. If they aren't turning on then, I would start testing the relays.
Yes, both fans should kick on. You should be able to test this with the car idling for a few minutes (10 minutes or so). With the car idling, there is no airflow through the radiator so the car heats up fairly quickly.
Ok, Went to advance and autozone, neither of which have the relays. (Insert you guys laughing because these are probably a dealer item, right?? Haha)
When I hit the A/C button and turn the dial to "1" both fans go on hardcore, so it isn't that the one fan is inoperative. I'm figuring now that its definitely the relays or the thermoswitch. Any way we can rule out the thermoswitch via the information we already have?
Thanks again,
~Tom
