CO 1993 Rear Primary Injector Not Firing

Hi,

Recently picked up a '93 that isn't running. The PO installed a KG Parts fuel rail, Injector Dynamics injectors, and aeromotive fpr. (Single turbo setup using an Apexi ecu)

I can't get the car to run for more than a second or 2, so I pulled the primary injectors to see if maybe one was stuck. The rear one is in fact, not firing upon cranking the car over. If I swap the clips, the injector itself works. I assume they both should be firing when the car is cranking over? I do notice that the rear clip is much harder to push on until it clicks, so maybe a new one is needed. According to the FPR, i am getting 25-30 psi at the rail when cranking (or at least that's what it reads by the time I get out of the car and walk around to the front)

Additionally, would a single primary injector failing to fire cause the car to not run? Or would it limp on one cylinder / rotor? (1st rotary here, so please forgive the newbie questions!)

Welcome!

First, check the injectors themselves. Test the resistances across the 2 pins with a meter, it should be around 12 ohms. Then use alligator clips/jumper wires to hook 12v to one injector pin and tap the other pin to a ground. You should hear and feel the injector click. It should easily do this each time you tap to ground.

Do you know what size the injectors are or anything?

Why isn't the car running? What was the story from the previous owner?

Typically you should be able to have a car run on one rotor - not well, but it can do it and will be rough as hell.

Is the PowerFC properly set up for those primary injectors?

Have you done a compression test on the engine?

I swapped the clips on the injectors to rule out that it was the actual injector since it works when the "good" clip is plugged into it.

I found injector dynamics boxes in the back that say 1000 and 2000, I did not remove the outer secondary injectors yet.

Why isn't the car running? What was the story from the previous owner?

Apparently it sat for some time, I purchased it from a gentleman who's son had passed away (it was the son's car) I drained out the old, and put fresh e85 (found boxes and documentation for e-85 pump, extra e-85 line, and 2 cycle oil in the car)

Typically you should be able to have a car run on one rotor - not well, but it can do it and will be rough as hell.

The car will fire up for like 2 seconds and die. I introduced some Marvel Mystery oil in via the upper intake manifold nipples and that seemed to help get it coughing and sputtering.

Is the PowerFC properly set up for those primary injectors?

-I have no idea, unfortunately the handheld commander did not come with the car. Id imagine it has been in the car a while though.

Have you done a compression test on the engine?

-Only one with a cheapo harbor freight gauge that shows 30/30/30 when the relief button is held down. I am hoping to have a friend with a rotary specific tester over sometime soon.

Any other thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

E85 is pretty harsh stuff, it will clog injectors up if it's sat for some time. What all is done to the car?

You are going to need a Datalogit for what you are wanting to do, that lets you hook a laptop to the PowerFC. The Commander is only good for monitoring and some minor changes. I think some of the larger injector sizes will need the Datalogit to setup as well.

Anyhow, start small and get some pictures up as well. Start with a compression test and work out from there.
