Question 18's on the FD. (already searched)

Okay, I'm looking at some 18x8 +40 rims.
First of all, I've already searched and not found what I'm looking for.. here's my questions:

What is the stock wheel offset, officially?

Will 18x8 +40's fit?

Do I need to measure caliper/spoke clearance (generally speaking)?

Also, I'm considering Enkei RP01's... Are there any clearance issues (fenders/inner/stock springs) with the 18x8.5 +45's that Discount has?

TIA
Steve

Do I need to measure caliper/spoke clearance (generally speaking)? don't worry if you have stock calipers and are putting on 18s, just make sure the rims have a 114.3x5 bolt pattern

Also, I'm considering Enkei RP01's... Are there any clearance issues (fenders/inner/stock springs) with the 18x8.5 +45's that Discount has? shouldn't be a prob with that sizing

You'll have better luck posting in suspension section. Ask SleepR1 or ARD T2.

If you are going with 18s, you should really get atleast a 9-inch wheel. That way, you can safely run 245/35 or 255/35. With a 9" wheel, you will probably need +40 to +45 offset.

BTW, the stock offset is +50

Also, I doubt you will have brake clearance issues with 18s!

i had 18x8s all the way. got into an accident and will now use 18x9s at the back and 18x8s at the front.

they fit. but, the front tires were hitting the body of the car during sharp turns. the part of the body thats over the tires was being hit and causing slight wear to the body (that area is not visible) and was the cause of slight uneven wear on the tires. i can live with that so i am gonna go with it. (my car hasnt been lowered or anything- stock height).

i think i was using 235/45 at the front and 275/55 at the back for tires.

i am thinking of going with 18 x 9"s up fornt and 18 x 10"s in the rear....If you're gonna go with 18"s might as go as wide as possible, too.

Thanks for the replies, I was looking at the RO_JA Formula 5's, they have the look I want - thin spoke, polished lip, spun forged, two piece w/o the two/three piece lugs around the circumference - they're only available in 18x7 and 18x8, both +40. I'm willing to sacrifice 4.69 lbs. per corner for the 18 in. style. I guess I'm wondering if there may be caliper to spoke clearance issues, and how to detect them - i.e. the caliper doesn't clear the spoke (on the side of the caliper) as it rotates on the spindle. Also wondering if the +40 will clear the inner fender, staying as close to stock diameter as possible with the tires.

Maybe I'll try the suspension forum, too.

Thanks again!
Steve

Oh yeah - anybody care to venture a guess - How come some people get rubbing and others don't, on the same dia/width wheel, same suspension? Noticed mixed reports on fender scrub during my search.

you search in wrong section.
there is a section just for wheels, tires and suspension.
you will have better luck getting what you need there.

Oh my god ... did you say RO_JA? Hahahahaha!! Oh yeah, there's a reason they don't come wider than 18 X 8" rollerskates -- because your typical Civic Si won't fit anything wider.

Alright, DK... laugh it up.

Go ahead and name one other thin 5 spoke, forged, polished lip 18x8, that doesn't have lugs around the circumference, for under $500 per wheel.

If you can, I'd be really interested. I don't necessarily want the damn Ro_Ja name with my car, but I want what I want, and no other manuf. has come close yet. So if you think you know better, prove it. Any suggestions will be welcomed.

BTW, aren't the stockers 16x8? do you laugh at those being "rollerskates"?

Good stuff man, but who not go a little bit wider in the front? Oh yeah and what are the performance differences of 17" as opposed to 18"?

If you run a Ground Control coil-over kit or threaded body coil overs with 2.5" OD springs, you'll be able to go wider. I'd also try and run the same width front and rear. The car has 50/50 balance and running the same tire f/r will allow for rotation. Currently, I use 18x9.5" rims front and rear with 265/35/18 tires.

That's a pretty interesting concept rxtt95...first time I've heard it to be done. I'm guessing your wheels last you almost twice longer than most because of this little parlor trick you are pulling .

Yeah that is way too tall for 18's, you should have went 18/235/35 and 18/275/30.... why was your rear taller then the front? I bet you rub all around with that set up.

Just check Discount tire, looks like they don't have ANY 235/35/18. Is 235/40/18 too tall?

Oh you know what actually, yeah go with the 235/40/18 for the front, and 265/35/18 for the rear, thats your best bet, and you shouldn't rub at all if you have the right offset. Just make sure your front rim is atleast an 18x8 in the front and an 18x9 in the rear. If you are going 18x8 all around you cant go more then 18/255/35 or 40.
