Question 15 Psi?!?!?!?!?!!?!?

Well, my mods are in the sig down there. I FINALLY got a boost gauge and others installed today. (Thanks Steve) I was bringing to the alignment place and just was in awe at the thing. Defi D-Gauge. Anywho, so I jump on it a bit in 3rd and the thing spikes to 15 psi (on the primary, didn't check the transition yet). I'm like WTF!?! Now, it didn't creep up there, it shot up there like it was supposed to be there. I've driven it plenty hard before without any real issues and I know I'd blow the motor soon if I kept this up. Does that seem normal? I mean, 15 psi with those mods? I didn't think that boost would hit that high, and even if it did, not as quick as it did.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Was it a particuliarly cold day out in Chicago?? 15 psi spikes with those mods can be fatal - but they usually happen when it's cold out.

When I installed my boost gauge, I found that I was boosting to 15 1/2 with no boost controller. I put in a manual one right away. I have similar mods with an efini y-pipe and M2 ECU.

I wouldn't recommend a DP w/out some sort of boost control. I'm stock and spiking to 13 psi. You can buy an electronic boost controller for several hundred dollars like me , or do a manual one for much less like many people have on this board. Don't run hard until you get that taken care of! I spent the extra green for the addition control and features of an EBC.

you are right
if you drive your car before you take care of this you will blow the motor

you said youve gone full throttle many times when it was boosting this much but you just didn't know it? really surprising. Were those mods on the car when you got it? maybe you already have an upgraded ecu and dont know.

any way I would create a boost leak if I were you or just not drive the car until you get it fixed. the manual controller is pretty easy to install it should take a few hours to do it total. Set it for 9 psi so when it gets cold it goes to 11 max.

Yeah. Mods have been on since I've had it. I'll have to look into that ECU. I've been looking to get a PFC really soon. I've got a Hallman boost controller coming tomorrow, so we'll be good then.

Well, as it turns out, I don't have a stock ECU! It looks like it was modded by GK Motorsports. At this point, I don't know if that's good or not from the stories I've heard. Well, I guess it's better than having a stock one, and I guess that would explain why I haven't blown up my motor yet. Yea for me! Is there any way to take a peek at the EEPROM and see what's been done...I haven't looked at it yet, but is there any interface to the ECU itself, of would you need a EEPROM reader?

Thanks all...

Christian

I suppose this can be moved to the ECU forum.
