13B-REW to LS1 Perspective
Asked and answered. Because I was young, overly ambitious, but willing to accept the hardship. I drove it every day, parked it outside, and I paid for doing so in both money and effort. I knew what I bought, and I accepted it.
I never said you CAN'T drive it everyday, just that you probably ought not too—especially if you're going get all hurt when it doesn't behave like a buick. The car is what it is.

Being young is not an answer. My question was what MADE you think it was ok to drive it daily?
You lost your own argument. You like everyone else saw nothing wrong in driving it daily (at the begining). Otherwise you wouldn't have done it. Enough said.

Z06 not "original" enough for you? Go with the Factory 5 GTM Supercar. Will beat the pants off pretty much anything out there including $200K+ macines and no one has one (as compared to a Z06).

I am seriously thinking about selling the RX7 . . .
:-( neil
My friend who semi-professionally races motorcycles turned me on to them. Give me a year or two and I will buy one. I have been combing ebay for parts cars. For the money, I don't think you can get a quicker, more original car. Besides, it is Factory5, pretty much the best name in the business (I should get commission).
I'm glad everyone put away their dicks for long enough for someone to actually read what I had to say.

Ptrhahn has made good points and good arguments, and some of yours are good as well. But for the most part I think you're just being difficult. This is not a direct attack or anything, just my opinion from what I've read.
If you guys like the factory five kit, the ultima gtr is a far superior car. The build quality is bar none when it comes to kits. Look at the vids of the TT LS7. Talk about speed.
So what? Have you driven a high torque car car on a track? Ever compared the driving experience to the FD's? Theyre so much more stable and predictable. When your more stable and predictable you are able to focus on other aspects of driving which makes you faster.
Ha, on a side note, you dont have to always worry about the 13b letting go in the middle of a sweeper, so that makes you faster also. Just kidding.

WRONG.
What made me think I could drive it daily was knowing that I'd be willing to accept the consequences for doing so, knowing full well that doing so wasn't the ideal situation.
That's completely different from getting all mad and blaming the car when the I-told-you-so happens.

Torque doesn't make a car stable bud. Sorry.

I don't get why everyone gets in a huff over this. If people want to do it knock themselves out.
The FD is well an FD that's all there is to it. We at least get something that definitively cannot be mistaken for a Chevy Astro van with a leaky exhaust.
There are unlimited different parts out there for our application so anything is possible and the racing wins of the FD far outnumber the Corvette.
Also, stock FD's don't have near the problems that modified ones do. I think this is because modfied cars who take care of every step (like the experience that Rich and Tommy have lived) seem not to have the same problems. However, for the most part people modify without having everything sorted and this is where the problems come in.
Enough is enough, I like my engine which is smaller than a Big Gulp.

If that was your mindset from the beginning then let it be. You have your expectations of what the car should be and I have mine. Mine just don’t include replacing engines at 60K but hey whatever you’re content with that’s so it’s cool.
I hope I can afford to build an Ultima some day they are so amazing.\
I'm bummed I missed the one that came thru town years ago to run thru Buffalo and took those pics on the 190/290 split, theyre on the Ultima website, dang so sick.
yeah talk about power/weight and insane grip!!!!!!!! wowieee
oh yeah, this thread is about FDs, freaking boring streetcar, stock motor, modify this modify that, blah blah blah.
The 13B-REW engine has a bad reputation which I consider to be unreasonable. If the Chevy 5.7L engine had produced the same hp per liter as the stock 13B-REW, it would have produced 493whp. My friend's LS1 with reworked heads, headers, mild cam upgrade, FAST intake manifold and TB, with 4" cold intake; produces 444whp. Still 49hp short of equivalency.
Now consider the above upgraded 13B at about 15psi boost produces 350whp and was still reliable. To match power per liter, the LS1 would need to make 761whp.

- You're comparing HP/L of a forced induction engine to HP/L of a NA engine. This is not really valid, whether you're talking F20C vs. 4G63 or rotors vs. pushrods
- Who cares about HP/L? Why don't we talk about HP/engine weight, as it has a lot more relevance to vehicle dynamics. HP/L is a silly metric Honda boys invented to make themselves feel better about being slow. A sportbike engine will kick everyone's butt in HP/L anyways
Just got mine runnin'!

The original author's probably not still reading this but:

HP/engine weight would be a better logical argument but the fact that the LS1 is all aluminum, i see why people in this thread would wanna start from there.
The fact that displacement theoretically determines how much power you're going to make, i see why the OP went with HP/L.
People still forget the fact how small the rotary engine is when you actually open it up. I mean the rotor is basically the size of a gallon of milk, perhaps a tad fatter in diameter. The rotor housings is like the size of a 10x8 picture frame.
We all know the V8, for the street, would be a better engine candidate for the FD but if that was the case, all the cars on the road would have V8's.
Its a simple idea, im sure fun to drive when its in there but in the end, IMO, its basically like a girl you see on the street when you're driving. You look at her when you go past her, then look away and go about your business.
I’m tired so let’s just agree to disagree.

Hey... don't say that—you have a Ferrari! Just stick it in the shop...oh darn, that's right. There ARE no shops for your Ferrari.
That's too bad.
Unfortunately, I'm gonna trade MY great super-performing, hi-revving Ferrari engine for a beat down, unproven, under-performing, poor man's Chevy that has NEVER won a LeMans race, and drive it straight to my trailer and have a ho-down!
And I'm gonna do it just to **** off some Ford owners...
