Question 13B RE in FD, why?

No this is not a thread asking if I can do this or if this is possible.

I was looking through ausrotary.com's forums and ran across pictures of an interesting engine swap of a 13BRE into a FD. I'm no expert of that engine, but isn't that the 2 rotor out of a lower model of Cosmo that's only pushing 200 hp? You'd think that keeping the 13BREW would be more desireable, but does anyone know why a swap like this would be done if there are any positives or is this just a case of a spare engine laying around and "do it just because you can"?

The 13B-RE came with the biggest intake ports stock I believe, so it's more desirable in that it makes more power when modified.

The 13B-RE has a higher HP capasity than the 13B-REW, mianly bacasue of the much larger ports on the intake and exhaust side. Well that, and this engine was aviable on the Cosmo, I believe.

Beat me to it! Now the car can get some serious air to go with that serious turbo.

If you want to do it "just to do it", then that would be fine. If you thinking it's going to give you some huge edge of the 13B-REW, then IMO you will be barking up the wrong tree.

FWIW, this BRS widebody (also runs a few time attacks per a few of the tuner magazines) FD also has a single snailed 13B-RE. It was recently featured in Super Street, and showed engine shots and what not with the RE in it, as opposed to the REW.

Dunno. . . . . the few times i've encountered it, it looked good to me. Maybe trhe angle of the shot? I have like 20 pix of this car (every FD I see at a race or carshow, I take a grip of shots).

Appears to line up. . . . At least to me it does. Where does it look off to ya??

edit

Yea, on the front bumper, I see. Good eye mate!

It was probably just the angle of the first pic. The headlights didn't seem to match the same.

i'm presently going this route. the RE uim and lim can be used but an adapter plate is required. also reusing the fd tb is a good idea. the most time consuming thing is to match port fd iron housings to re LIM.

Just came across this thread and followed Mahjik's link and it turned out to be my thread! Too funny. Anyway, it appears there are multiple links in my original post which go to various companies and products which in no way shape or form do I support or condone. And it appears that by creating these links that the person posting the thread does support them. I understand the need to make money but it also seems a bit sneaky to me.

Anyway, the RE intake will provide a bit more midrange and torque than the FD's intake manifold. It's still up in the air as to which is better for overall power but there are plenty of drag cars running sub-10's with the Cosmo's upper and lower intake.

Use the 13b RE intake manifolds, they flow better. For the motor use the 13b RE irons as they have bigger intake ports and can ultimately be ported larger. If you use the 13b REW irons with the RE manifolds, they will not match up right and you will have to do alot of port matching. The 13b RE throttle body also has provisions for the throttle cable on the wrong side. Use the 13b REW iron housings. The 13b RE had more restrictve exahaust ports as it was tuned for torque.
