That means that a rebuild is in your (immediate) future if you decide to purchase this vehicle. 6.0 is a very low reading. Personally, when mine gets down to 7.5 I'm going to start thinking about a rebuild (current readings on my engine range from 8.6-9.0 on all faces, but this is freakishly high, especially since my motor is about 5 years old), of course I'll also throw a street port in there as well... just need the excuse of low compression to justify spending the thousands on getting the job done.
Simplified: that is very bad.
It's good that you are asking these questions now, before you buy the vehicle. However a lot of the questions perspective buyers ask have been asked numerous times before. I would suggest digging through the FAQ's and 3rd gen archive section. You will get answers to your questions and also learn many (seemingly random) other facts which will come in handy later on. If all else fails we have a fairly comprehensive search function on this forum which works wonders ;-)

Hehe, Lesson #1. Don't trust your average Mazda dealership.. They know less about the car than you do (ESPECIALLY if you read around and do your research on this forum like I suggested...)

lesson eleventy billion- NEVER TAKE YOUR RX7 TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP.
Search out rotary garages in your area. You will get it without lube if you take it to a mazda dealership. I promise you that.

There is nothing wrong with taking the car to Mazda for a compression test, particularly if there is no rotary shop within a reasonable distance. They should have the right compression tester to get you good results, and it's a step-by-step procedure following the manual.
That said, the compression test is as far as I'd trust them. Smart diagnostics and efficient troubleshooting are not part of the ordinary Mazda dealer mechanic's repertoire. There are a few, but only a very few anymore.
