is 13 mpg normal?

i just calculated my mpg and on average i get about 13 mpg. in the city i get 11 mpg and the high way i get 15 mpg... i dont drive crazy only the occasional pedal to the metal... i was wondering if this is normal for an fd. i thought that they were supose to get around 18-20 mpg. could it be my ingectors? i dont think that they have ever been replaced. thanx

That is not notrmal at all check your O2 sensor if that thing is reading hell knows what it will make it run rich as hell. If you injectors were cloged it wouldnt run good and sputer alot becouse of the fuel shortage. Does it back fire a lot? If it does that means you dont burn all the fuel suplied to the engine and if it doesnt then you have a gas leak somewhere if you do it will smell like gas something horible you cant miss it trust me. I hope this helps.

My city/highway are both about 5 mpg higher than you report, and I have exhaust and intake mods. On the other hand if I allow my right foot to go too wild my mpg drops really fast.

In addition to rotarycrazy's recommendations I'd add check you spark plugs, plug wires, and air filter; all are very common contributors to lower mpg. Remimber that rotaries are particularly hard on spark plugs.

Before I upgraded to a pfc, I was seeing maybe 11 city and 18 highway. Also note that I did replace the o2 sensor, and these are the numbers I was getting.

I believe my gas mileage is better now with the pfc.

It should be a bit better on the highway than 15, but 11 around town is not abnormal.

Replacing the fuel filter has also been said to increase mpg.

I myself get about 15 mixed street and highway.

Depends on driving habits. 11-13mpg in town IS normal for me. I've owned ~15 mostly stock FDs and driven them all enough to figure out mileage in town is consistant car to car.

I got 20-23mpg on the freeway. Best ever in town was 15-16mpg and that was putting around which was basically toture in a car like the FD.

Make sure your PFC is set to run in closed loop mode on the O2 sensor otherwise you'll always run rich when cruising and get terrible mileage. I believe that setting is on the etc screen and it's in the pfc manual. I got about 18mpg on the highway with my PFC.

Whoops, never mind, you don't have a PFC.

Yes, if your water temp never reaches 80C or if the water temp sensor is bad the ECU will make the car run richer. No check engine light?

*RX007*,

I'm with turbojeff on this one. Unless you have a programmable ECU like the PFC, what you are seeing is normal.

29 MPG! wow. I might try that not passing over 2500 RPM and no more than 60MPH and see what happenes beside fouled plugs.

*** You step on your clutch when going down hill? Why gon't you just put it in neutral? saves your clutch and your foot.

Pretty pointless when the injectors are completely shut-off during coasting conditions.....
