Angry 12k and T/O bearing failing?

bought brand new t/o bearing and lubricated with valvoline synthetic grease (liberally) and I hear bearing rattling sound that disappears when the clutch pedal is pushed....this would be my throw out bearing, no?

If not, what else could/would it be?

thanks

No, your bearing is under stress when the pedal is pushed. If the noise goes away when you push the pedal, your problem is more likely to be in the transmission. Does it go away if you push the pedal while the car is moving (and you're in gear) ?

The trannys will make a little noise that you can hear when idling with the car in neutral. This isn't really a problem unless you have some other symptoms.

I agree with MKS, the TO bearing is only working when the clutch pedal is depressed.

Mine's always been the same as well; with old or new throw out bearing and old or new pilot bearing. A low growling noise in neutral with the engine running that goes away when the clutch is depressed or the tranny put into gear.

What kind of clutch do you have? Some clutches rattle more than others, especially if its tqed down to the flywheel at the minimum specs. My clutch used to rattle some just like your describing but after my last motor swap I tqed it down a little more and it went away. This is with the same clutch, TO bearing, ect ect ect. The only thing I changed was before it was tqed about 23lb-feet I think and the 2nd time I tqed it more like 30lb-feet.

At least, since thats the only thing I changed I figured thats what fixed the problem.

FWIW I don't think the noise in mine is the clutch, it's the input shaft on the transmission rattling.

I have a lightwieght flywheel and 6-puc ceramic sprung hub clutch...I tightened heavy duty pressure plate to minimum torque specs (19 ft-lbs?) very carefully per manual...I can jack up the car and spec them tighter. I was somehow under the understanding to not overtorque the pressure plate to the flywheel.

Well at least I will not have to remove the tranny to tighten pressure plate...

btw, thank you all for your great feedback!
