Mine just ran a 13.58 @ 105 on a G-Tech last night. All it has is a bigger downpipe.

Can someone explain to me How a G-Tech works??

I highly doubt it can be accurate in anyway..

how can something, time a actual quarter mile time
and speed, WITH out having a actual start, stop , clock
and Rader for speed???

it starts when your car starts to move, and I figure it kinda piggy backs off your odometer or something like that to know how far a 1/4 mile is.

It is a device that measures speed and distance (also called an accelerometer) by caculating g force. You'd be suprised how accurate it can be. From my experience if I run a 13.58 w/ the g tech I'll see right around that at the track (depending on weather, track conditions etc). It is definetely very accurate. You can read more about them at gtechpro.com...

I've found the g-tech to be very accurate in ET's but not trap speeds. I've run a 13.58 with a g-tech also but mph read like 112 or something.

At the track the car (slightly more modded, outside temp about 20 degrees higher) the car ran several 13.4's at 104-105 mph.

Back to the subject, my 93 R1 ran a 13.945@99.54mph on it's first pass at the strip with a passenger completely stock. Expect a good running 5sp FD to put down times from 13.8-14.2 with a decent driver. ONE or TWO people have gotten 13.3-13.49 with stock cars at the strip. I believe these results but they are far from typical.

i recently bought a g-tech pro but haven't tried it out yet. like what was said, the g-tech measures g force (acceleration). from accerlation you can determine velocity (speed) and distance given elapsed time. if you want a calculus lesson pm me it is accurate if the road you are running on is straight and flat and if you position the g tech properly. obvious this will be hard to do compared to a run at the drag strips. i believe the trap speed is a little higher because the g-tech measures instantaneous speed whereas the trap speed you get at the strip is averaged between two points.

I can tell you how a G-Tech works, IT DOESNT!! I ran a 12.55 with tons of mods with my G-Tech. Went to the track and got a best time of 13.5 last month. So those of you out there feeling all proud of what your little G-Tech told you, GO TO THE TRACK, you will be hit with a hard case of REALITY!!

Steve

I say this because I too was a victim of the G-Tech, I was hoping to see those numbers at the track and just didnt. I now run 12.8 with a few more mods since then but still, it was upsetting so dont get your hopes up, thats all I mean.

OneBadRx7- Strange experience you had with the G tech. Never heard of it being off like you describe it to be... How's your traction at the track compared to the street? From my experience, if your running street tires you'll have better traction on the street and worse at the track therefore making for the wild difference in ET's. It doesn't take much to add a second to your ET w/ a poor launch. Either that or you need to call Tesla and tell them how off yours is and have them send you a new one.
My experience with the G Tech is quite the opposite. In my Camaro I ran a bunch of mid 13's at the track w/ a real bad misfire above 5500 rpm. Fixed the misfire and took it out with the G Tech. Could definetely tell a difference and turned a 13.0.
Yes, as mentioned the trap speeds are off with the G Tech... The reason for that is the G Tech measures the speed exactly at the 1/4. The track measures the speed a short distance before the 1/4 mile mark.

Chuck

With a stock FD you can expect around 14 seconds @ 100 mph. It could be better, could be worse depending on conditions and driver

i had a gtech and tried it on a couple of 7s and in general i agree what has been said here (lately). not horrible on ETs but generous on traps.

what do y'all think of the HP function? i thought it was mostly close, but erratic a bit.

one thing people are forgeting with the g-tech when using it is that it calculates times by g-force. So you MUST MUST MUST be on a flat surface. going downhill or uphill will serverely mess up your HP rating and your 1/4 mile times.

and conditoins matter a lot, temps, traction, elevation, humidity.

Thank u for your answer and much more . I also saw in magazines and books that a stock FD should run around 14s on 1/4 mile, but i just want to know time from normal drivers like us and not from professionnal drivers that drive cars all day long.

a magazine in sweden just recently made a test about 3 kinds of accelerometer and one was the g-tech.
it was pretty accurate on the ET, it only showed around 0.2 seconds to fast. The downside was that the 0-60 showed a second wrong. so if u make 0-60 in like 5 seconds u are really doing it in 6.

The best way to test your cars performance is on the track or go get an gps cause they are equally as exact as on the track.

Maybe mine is screwed up then I dunno. I am going to the track tomorrow and I will run the G-Tech when I run to see if the times are the same as the track times, later guys,

Steve
