Wink *newbie* If you got some time to waste, I got some "?'s" for ya

Okay, Hi everyone. I'm thinking about getting a 3rd Gen RX-7, but don't know too much about them, I've had my heart set on a MKVI Supra forever, but I doubt I'll get one.
Anyway, first question is how much boost can the RX-7 take on 93 Octane gas?
Second question, Insurance..I'm a 16 year old, living in WVa (I know, I'm young, but I work ALOT so I can get money for a car/insurance) I took a Driver's Education Course, and have a 3.0 Average, is there anything else I can do to make insurance cheaper? I'm guessing putting my mom as the primary driver?
3rd question is the reliablity of the engine. I have heard stories of these things that are not so good, and I have heard great ones as well, buying a 3rd Gen RX-7 with 30k-40k miles, how long would the motor probably last me?
4th is comfort, I'm 6'2-3" about 240 lbs, (I'm on a diet) but I'm pretty stout, is anyone here about the same build? And adding racing seats (Sparco, momo, etc) would it allow me to have more room?
5th is Gas Mileage, what do you guys get on yours?
Well, that's about all the question I have for now, sorry for rambling so much, but forums are the only places I can ever get straight answers. Thanks alot and I look for forward to talking with you all again!

the rx7 motor can last a long time if you maintain it and perform the reliability mods. It all depends on how the last owner kept the rx7...

for fitment, there are some people on this forum that are about the same build and fit perfectly. Do a search and find the topic called "How tall is too tall" it give opinions about people fitment in the rx7 and how tall they are. Btw, most racing seats have a very hard time for fitment.. They are too wide. You have to do adjustments to the seat to make them fit. And as for brackets for the seats.. they are very hard to find! Keep the stock seats! they are the best, IMO.

The gas mileage is very low... Do a search and look for the topic called "What gas mileage you gettin'?" People give there gas mileages there for stock and modded.

remember, do searches for topics. it will help you alot.

hope this help you

Yeah not trying to sound like a *****, but if you're watching mpg then maybe the rx7 is not for you..

Otherwise if your mom could list the car on her policy then it would probably save you some dough, especially if she was the primary driver. If you have any basic questions about rx7's I urge you to do a search like 1fast7 said, because there is a ton of info already floating around, and people tend to get a little upset when they have to repeat an answer to a question that gets asked every week. Other than that welcome to the forum.

16-17 PSI, knowing that it is tuned properly. more than that is really pushin in on pump gas.

The maxpower/efficiency for the stock turbos is about 14-15 psi, of course you could always turn it up, im peaking at 1.5 bar and im currently trying to lower it, i know its gonna pop the motor so im driving it like a granny! in any case these cars run hot and eat gas, im getting about 8-13mpg but im willing to sacrafice it for the thrill it gives me. Another thing is that dont put your mom as your primary driver for insurance cuz your gaurenteed to get a ticket and that will send her insurance thru the roof, thats just a fact of life when you are 16years old and get a car that can easily cruise at 130-140 peaking at 155-165 stock. in fact if you were to drive speed limit, you would never need to get out of second (goes to 70mph, i know from personal experience, its possible!) the good thing is that youll problally be able to out run all crownvics cop cars and out handle anything this side of 100k and some things over 100k. if you do get a fd, make sure you have enuf for an engine rebuild, especially if you are planning to be boosting high! i have no idea about high although me at 5"7' is a perfect fit although it is still hard sometimes to get out of the car, its only about 2-4 inches off the ground.

one thing to note when testing a car, make sure you drive it and drive the hell out of it! make sure there is nothing wrong with it cuz there are a lot of mistreated ones out there, i went though alot of them to find mines, oh well good luck. Also, make sure not to pay too much for one! if you are on the mainland/lower 48's it should be relativly cheap, about 10-13 grand if stock.

P.S. get a manual, an automatic sports car is automatically not a sports car!

MKVI supra hasn't come out yet
2. insurance will be high, get your parents to insure it, they'll be alot cheaper
4. if you have leg room problem, then get a sparco spacer and a momo spacer, and a smaller steeringwheel.

OK...

I got my 1st Fd when i was 17yrs. old. i dont think i could have afforded it if i did not make many sacrifices! I saved up all my money working 1yr and half and bought my first fd a 93 R1 cash...$$$$$$$ there would be no other way i could get that car i had no CREDIT and my parents were paying my brothers schooling tuition. i had issues with that first 7 so it had to go. i ended up gettin a touring which is nice.Fd's are nice cars but they demand lots of attention if you are used to the honda's that can go runnin years without oil changes this car is gonna be way different. first of all MAZDa built the car i would say good....its just they didnt built it thinking there were going to be soo many fans gettin them and modding them too race car specs. they made the car so that if some one owned it and left it stock it would last. Alot of the 7's for sale on the market now are usually at that point where they need to have various parts replaced due to the mistreatment they have recieved. so if you buy a rx7 plan on doing major upgrades almost right away if you check the search and search up reliability upgrades you will see what i am talkin about. just be careful with your decision and good luck with whichever car you pick.

gas mileage on a 3rd gen is running ~20-28mpg. I've got a new engine and stock ecu. pfc is supposed to help that a bit.
