But really, ideal plan would be:
buy a JDM long block
tow car and long block to shop some where hopefully kinda close to WV (bordering states or within 3 or 4 hours away.
shop would then rebuild JDM block and install rebuilt engine into car
please thank you, then shop gets all the money
then said shop has happy life long customer

Mahjik - I'm not neccessarily trying to be cheap, I'm just trying to not let the money pit aka FD become and actual money pit......again.
I'm trying to have a short block that I can safely build on (add stuffs) later on. Thats why I'm looking to have a bit of porting and better seals.

Save yourself the headache and get a reman from Ray unless you want to buy 2-3 JDM motors to get enough good parts to build 1 good motor.

My opinion, and I have a little experience with this subject as I used to offer rebuilt short blocks/long blocks, take your car to rotaryresurrection.com. Kevin can likely build you an engine out of his parts, install it and provide you with a one year warranty for that price. You can buy nicely built enignes with street port, upgraded apex seals and warranty for $3500-4000.00 and Kevin charges $1,000.00 for an install. That is your best bet, period. Contact Allrotor as well for an all inclusive package as he is a great option as well.
Jspecs are an absolute no go these days unless you want to pay $1700-1800 for engine externals, cause that is the only parts you can gaurantee will be usable. The rest of the engine is a crap shoot. I dont think any Jspec importers are offering any warranty at all these days, that should tell you something.
Reman is not a bad option, however if you have higher power goals and dont want to worry everytime you roll in to the throttle then you need to have the apex seals upgraded so not really worth the $2800.00 plus core fee just to send it off for a rebuild.
I would check with Banzai as well, Im not sure if he will build and engine out of his own parts as he may find it more profitable to sell spare parts to customers who send in cores. Either way, his prices are really reasonable as well.
There are plenty of options and really nothing new is being discussed here.

The best bet would get a hold of reman from Ray if he has one available. That would be a good starting point and you can choose to go from there. JDM engines are a hit or miss a lot of the time and you need be careful because a lot of the big components turn out being unusable.

I'm not looking to buy anything right now folks. I'm working on a plan on how to get my FD running around February, unless its something that will come open in that time frame please refrain from posting classified links. I'm looking for guidance and options to consider, which I've got a good bit so far. Trying to look at everything so I can get what I need within my budget, thanks.

I recommend Japan2LA based on my good experience from about a year ago with suspension parts. I have read the threads about him and wont recommend him anymore. Im glad I brought it up and was able to learn about his recent status as I was about to order a diff from him. Now I will look else where.

JDM engine $1500-1900
engine rebuild $1600-2000
porting $300-500
engine R+R with misc parts $1000-1200
turbos $200
second set of turbos that actually work for more than a week $300
additional misc labor and parts you don't have to put the jigsaw puzzle back together $500
-----------------------------------------------------
grand total $5400 with best case scenario.
that is why i never bothered with this, on top of the $1500 freight fee it would take to even get the car here.
not a single person has suggested anything that fits into your budget aside from getting lucky and finding a partout car and snagging a good running engine. most of us rotary shops are done jumping through hoops for people to meet up with rather stringent budgets. **** always goes wrong, things always take longer and the cost almost never is the bare minimum figure when you bring in a car in boxes. if it was running and simply blew a coolant seal, much more straightforward... but this, i highly doubt is going to be a straightforward job.
your biggest hurdle is finding an engine, shops are going to charge you no less than an additional $1k for a core short block engine.

^ You're a bit too far away to work on my car anyways and seem to be quite busy at the moment. I'm sure there is a shop over here that will work with me. In your personal opinion how do you feel about the Goopy seals?
