$1700!!! Help me spend it!!!
$1700!!! Help me spend it!!!
Just need some fellow FD'ers opinions on what you would buy, I am wracking my brain trying to spend it.
I figure it's gonna be either show or go, just can't decide.
Here is what I have so far:
ECU, FMIC, Intake, DP, MP, CB, coilovers, Fluidyne rad, silicone hoses, almost all reliabilty mods, 18" wheels....
Here are my ideas for go: fuel pump, pressure regualtor, ProfecB, 4.77 gear, flywheel....
And for show: GT wing, C-west or Abflug kit...
Give me some input guys!

I'd say spend the money on the fuel and cooling system... Fuel pump yes and maybe some 1300cc injectors.. Personally dont think you need to the regulator just yet... ...maybe another oil cooler, unless you already have a R1/R2.
if your for show (and i am), i would go with a good body kit. i have an OEM 99 bumper, with sideskirts, and a wing (and i make sure my car is always waxed up and shinny). and i swear to god, my car looks more exotic than a ferrari.
the other day i was standing at the signal with a BMW Z8 (the car in the latest bond movie). and not a single pedestrian even gave the z8 a second glance. everyone was looking at my car. and i tell you, its an awesome feeling.

If you want more performance, I would go with the fuel pump, injectors and the ProfecB.
If you are happy with the car's current performance, go for some exterior mods.

Wha'ts your milage, you may beed bushings soon.
Theft recovery system (LoJack, Teletrac).
High watt headlight bulbs, GT wing, polished engine parts.

Thanks for the replies. I dunno why I am having such a problem thinking of how I want to spend the money.
I always want to go faster, my best time is 13.0@109 on 10psi, so I know with my usual 13-14psi I would be in the 12's. But the thing is, I hardly ever get to use my 'go' that I have now, but when I do it's really nice
So that is my problem with buying more speed.
My problem with the looks is that other than my 18's it's all stock, and I have a Scoot CF hood coming soon. I think that a 'stock' FD with a Scoot hood might look kinda nasty.
So, yeah, I was just trying to get some ideas and some opinions. Keep'em coming!

(No joke..with no boost control/spike limitations, yer gonna smoke that baby. Get a Profec-B, Blitz or splurge on the Apexi PFC all-in-one. You got one, right?

There's lots of things to consider when you take a bite into the tuning on an FD3S. Depending on what state you live in, I'd say take a hi-flow cat over a down pipe. You'll have to spend more money later in the future if you need to pass an emissions test. Plus, you'll save your low end a little bit with a good cat.
As far as putting your money towards something, I'd deffinitely think about either show OR go. Its hard to get both with less than 2k. You could do some electrical stuff and get a nice vacuum hose kit. Put wheels on and whatnot. You may have enough money for an intercooler and some other options, but then you jeopordize your ecu's control if you don't have the proper programing done to compensate for it.
If you're going for good electronics, I'd say go straight for the Power FC from APEX'i. That will give you the customizing base to build on safely and reliably. You wont have much left after buying one, but it gets a pricey piece of the tuning journey behind you. You can gain power with that alone.
For the show stuff. Some good wheel sets will set you back for more than the amount you have to spend. Coilover sets are expensive, but if you choose the custom route, you could go with a set of Koni Sport adjustables and pick your spring kit while spending less than 1k. That'll give you a lowering effect and do a little handling enhancing for you. Other than that, there's always the fun of picking a body kit. Just remember that when you get a kit, its gonna have to be painted, so don't put yourself under for having a bunch of extra fiberglass sitting in your garage until you get enough money to have it installed and painted. HID light kit and/or Knight Sports/C-West headlight kits would be neat. Lots of money, but look great.
I'd just spend the money on something that is independent of other parts for performance. You don't want to do all your exhaust, downpipe, and intake mods right away without having the ecu programmed to compensate, or you may end up detonating if your timing strays off. HKS Twin Power Ignition Amp. New wires, plugs, hoses, etc. Whatever you do will make your car better, but without balance, you can easily jeopardize the car's reliability.

You should have a fuel pump now! Get that first - injectors should be next - your still ok now but at 14 psi those stock injectors are close to 100% duty cycle - could detonate - might not - don't need a regulator unless going 15 psi and over or going single turbo. if you get injectors you'll HAVE to get a PFC or Haltech. M2s can't control larger injectors. Personally, the 99 J-spec wing in the nicest spoiler for the FD IMO. You can overdo an FD with bodykits. All they do is weigh the car down and the 18s slow it down even more (I know this with my chrome 18s with crap tires)
I'd get:
PFC $830 - sell your M2 for $500 - spend $330
PFC tuned for mods on dyno $200
1300 cc injectors $330
99 spoiler $800
Walbro fuel pump - $150
Total - $1800 or so for a better ecu tuned for your car, a nice wing, and much safer fuel system.
