In 10.5 years only repairs and maintenance have been: new alternator, coils, rotors, pads and tires.
All wearable parts, easily repaired/replaced, so can't compalint at all.

2011 BMW 528i M package with 55K miles, battery replaced, tires, rotors and pads, so far.
No complaints either.

FD different story, LOL.

As much as I love the BMW's I own I still lust after a V-12 Vantage Aston Martin. It's on the list. Maybe in the next 5 years. I know it will try to break me but I'm conditioned by such things owning 3 FD's.
What could be worse than a hand built British car? Probably nothing. But so sexy!

Ive owned a lot of BMWs, at 85k miles you are at the point you should sell asap or just accept whats coming. Great cars, best driver car outside of real sports car but god do the suspension, cooling and interior issue compound in a hurry when approaching the 100k mark.

Wow, I must be lucky then.
1984 633 CSi 145K no issues other than wear and tear items
1989 635 CSi 130K again, no issues same as above

The '05 M3 is my DD and is in showroom condition (original owner), inside 10/10 and outside 9/10.
The cooling system is a well known issue with BMW's at 100K, but nothing major either to me. I replaced the H2O pump/rad/thermostat/belt/pullies.
After that you are good for another 100K miles. Done on the previous ones as prevention around 100K.
Still on my original shocks/springs/bushings, might be the good roads in Texas.
My interior shows no signs of wear!!! Maybe because of the seat covers, garaged and leather treatment every 4-6 months.

Hah, I make my living repairing German cars, mainly Porsches... rotary guys have it easy. My next job is a 997tt coolant leak that will cost about 7g to repair. Makes a couple g for a mazda shortblock seem like peanuts.

Sounds like a good argument for the air cooled "total loss" cooling system. LOL

Hah maybe, until you consider that the older cars are oil cooled and get your first estimate for a re-seal.

Yeah, a buddy of mine had one, had major issues twice (fortunately under warranty), and finally went back to a big gasser V-8 Silverado.

Plus they also have compression issues, electrical gremlins, shitty Axle CV Joint and oil leaks everywhere.
My 1975 Porsche 911S-hiza was all that and the AC SUCKED.
I seal the rear hatch with a rubber gasket all the way around and added an electrical fan to the condenser, when the factory didn't even dream of having it back then.

Them air cooled Porsches are gaining value quick! My dad sold his about 3 years ago... like an idiot!

Also wanted to add for the guy who's also had Maseratis, AMGs and Porsches a little story from Laguna Seca the other day.
I was in the pits prepping my car when this older guy in a BEAUTIFUL black Ferrari 512BB pulled up to me. He told me "Nice car! You guys who drive RX-7s make great future Ferrari owners because you're used to them always breaking down and the parts and astronomical!"

I was all ...'Um Thanks?" fkn guy's killin me. LOL

I think he was being sarcastic or cynical, but not truthful.
You should have told him: "**** your couch Charlie Murphy, I can rebuild my engine for the cost of you replacing your clutch or brake and rotors".

I'm fairly certain that my current RX-7s will be my most expensive cars on a per mile basis.
Cash outflows ~$50K
Miles driven ~5

Fritz- Do you have any longblocks for sale? Looking for something 100% stock- Doesn't need to be perfect, but a solid core to be rebuilt.
