Next year you can. It'll be 25 years in 2017. I don't know the actual process, but all restrictions on imports are lifted after they turn 25.

Go talk to people that imported Skyline R32s recently - I'm sure they can be more help.

That's what I feared...would I still be able to bring it here but just not be able to insure and get it in my name until 2017

I live in Metro Detroit... so crossing the Canada border is just normal to us. That said, I think physically getting it here is of no concern. Just make sure you do your research.

You *might* end up needing proof of entry or something to that extent when 2017 finally rolls around and you want to register/insure it.

Seriously, go talk to the Skyline R32 guys.

Why not search, or even better, why don't you call U.S. Customs?

From what I have come to understand, once the car is imported illegally, it can never become legal, even when it hits 25 years old. You must obtain the proper documents when it crosses the border or it will always be illegal.

Wow, I didn't know this! I always wondered someone couldn't import their RHD JDM (yo
) dream machine, stick it in their garage, and register and drive it when it hit 25 y/o. Just the man, holding us down!

I imported an FD from Canada to the US. There is plenty of info online on the process.
