First time Rx7 owner
Obligatory introduction time-
Howdy! My names Matthew and I come from the great city of sin, Las Vegas
Been lurking on these forums for yeeaarrss- But only just recently finally got my hands on my first Rx7. A nice little base 93 with only 83k miles on the clock. This has been my dream car since I was about 14 or 15 (Am 30 now)- And couldnt be happier. People often say dont meet your heroes, but I'm so glad I did. Absolutely love this vehicle.
List of goodies include a mazda reman motor, apexi pfc with commander and avc-4 boost controller, 1680 primaries, 850 secondaries, fpr, supra fuel pump, aem water/meth injection, hks tp ignition, greddy pulley kit, greddy intake elbow, pf intake box/filter/medium sized smic, koyo radiator, dual oil coolers, bonez downpipe to an apexi exhaust, tein ss coilovers, front/rear sway bars (Not sure what brand- came on the car), front and rear tower braces, ss lines for the brake and clutch, act lightened flywheel, exedy clutch, Jdm 5 speed (Shorter 5th. want to rebuild my USDM trans and get it back in there), B&M short throw shifter (yes it rattles. woo), slotted rotors, Enkei RPF1 rims, and plenty of other goodies im probably forgetting. Parallel turbo set up as well- basically anything and everything id want to do to make this car as happy and reliable as possible within fair reason and what I feel is good taste.
The car had an ACT clutch as well when i bought it- But shortly after acquiring the car the clutch-fork went out and cracked at the lock-pin. I drove it once going "why does the clutch pedal feel so funny..." thinking it was the hydraulics at first- but could see the slave was going through its fully throw. Being concerned I stopped driving the car and found out theyre known to have this be a problem.
The car already had the grinding 5th gear when i got it (boo), but thankfully it came with a spare transmission- Yay, and I knew id be tearing into the transmission shortly after getting the car so this wasnt a HUGE problem. Bonus because the spare trans also had a spare clutch fork. I actually took the spare clutch fork, cleaned it up, and welded it where that lock-pin was so hopefully I wont have to worry about it cracking there down the line. The one drive I did with the vehicle seemed like it was enough to toast the clutch, or it was previous damage (no biggie though, already in there), and after some good reviews decided to go with an exedy clutch (Love this clutch too. the recommendations were spot on).
The car, sadly for me as I live in vegas, had the AC relatively removed- And ill definitely be attempting to put that back in. Already have the parts, just need to get around to installing them.
Only last real concern is it also seemingly has got just a base tune on the PFC, Ill have my tuner fix this up for me in a few weeks however.
My two other toys include a 72 240z-
With a mod list every bit as long as the 7s. This car was my project/baby for the better part of a decade. Rebuilt 280zx turbo engine connected to a 5 speed being run by a haltech e6a and an awesome retro original hks evc boost controller (in love with how they used to control boost, no school like old school) . T3/t4 turbo, fpr, walbro 255, fed by a separate fuel surge tank with its own fuel pump, larger injectors, 3" turbo back exhaust with a 40mm external waste gate, aluminum intercooler piping connecting to an large-npr intercooler (thats not a radiator in that grill), 3 row aluminum radiator, 15/16s master upgrade, 4 piston vented brakes up front, 240sx rear brakes out back, SS lines for the brakes/clutch, helical lsd, Coilovers/camber plates at all 4 corners, ST sways front and rear, poly bushings, and again- probably many other things im forgetting.
Its a fun little toy that kept up with the Vipers at the shop I worked at before I moved to australia for a few years
Shameless plug: I wrenched on vipers for a living before moving to australia
I loved whoring-out the shop to work on my own vehicle.
This was the vehicle when I got it- Its come a long way.
But this is actually the 2nd project I had- After my 1986 corolla. Which is, no getting around it, a bit "fan boyed" out-
Initial D is what got me IN to cars as a kid- So it seemed fitting. This thing isnt "as crazy", basic suspension (Whiteline springs, tokico blues for shocks, keeps it soft/manageable, poly bushings,), rebuilt LSD (Need to upgrade. the stock LSD is garbage in these things- even rebuilt. But I did this 11 years ago, so I had no clue), and the ever so popular 20v 4age swap (For those unfamiliar, its a cute little 1.6 liter engine that came with 5 valves per cylinder, stupid amounts of compression, and itbs from the factory. They were generously rated at 170 hp from the factory back when they were fresh and who knows how many horses escaped the ranch- Which isnt too far off of what i was getting. I was 135-140 whp on the dynojet at the shop, relatively in the ballpark once you factor in drivetrain loss.
But thats probably enough rambling- Again a huge hi to everyone here. Look forward to sticking around.
