so I got a 1992 rx7 fd LHD that was salvaged and a clip from a rx7 efini (not sure what year.. it came with ugly fog lights if that helps I have a pic if you need) so basically I already had 70% of the parts for RHD already and for some reason, I don't have a LHD steering rack but two RDH steering racks... so I'm like yeah RHD just seems like the way to go about it. So I already have the wiring harness from the RHD clip. along with the dash harness but I'm noticing that the connectors were it connects up the rear harness by the doors arent the side. On the LHD rear harness, it comes into Drivers side #1 and passenger #2. and on the RHD it is #3 drivers and #4 passenger. I wasn't aware that these would be different connectors. Does anyone know if its based on year? LHD vs RHD? efini? just trying to plan my next step for this car. Also, some other info unrelated I kinda got this for super cheap on facebook market altogether because the guy was hit hard from the Rona so it was a good deal and at any point, I can just part everything out and get back more than what I paid id just rather have my dream car. So any info would really help! thankyou! RHD passanger #3 RHD driver , #2 LHD passanger LHD driver
for what year. Any idea what the next easiest option is? buying a rear harness that matches the RHD efini?
Pursuing this conversion is going to end poorly if it ends at all. Trying to figure out this mismatch of wiring isn't going to happen. There are a lot of variables between auto and manual, placement of plugs between lhd and rhd.... also cutting up 2 cars to make one is nonsense. You'd be better parting out like you mentioned.
to get a real answer for your wiring issue you need to find someone with both a lhd and rhd car willing to tear their interior apart to compare.... so good luck
The steering conversion is regarded to be difficult, so is splicing two cars together. Doing all that without expert level working knowledge of the FD is a really tall mountain to climb. You'd be better off steering your profits into an easier project.
I honestly have yet to figure out what it is that makes people want to tear their cars apart and make it RHD. Have you ever driven a RHD car? In Japan, it was amazing!! Here? Its DANGEROUS!! My friend in his RHD FD will tell you first hand to not do it, after driving my car he's trying to sell his car and get a LHD version, just so he can see around cars he's trying to pass and whatnot. I was behind him when he almost got demolished by a dump truck. Another issue is parts compatibility regarding the steering rap, and even the downpipe and other turbo accessories. Just...listen to these guys. Don't even bother.
