Better consider whether the local authorities are cracking down. Ouch.

I don't get the excitement about RHD cars. Its the SAME CAR. Just with the steering wheel on the wrong side.

That said. If you can't legally convert a skyline to LHD, then don't get one.

Having a RHD car in the US is not illegal. If you convert your USDM car to RHD it is legal.

The reason these cars are being impounded and crushed is because they are brought into this country illegally.

I said "RHD" because the only 93-95's eligible for import are LHD. If someone went to the trouble of converting their car to the wrong side that would be noteworthy for other reasons.

Lol same thing.

They are being brought into the country illegally because having an RHD IS illegal lol.

Because if it was legal, they wouldn't have to import them illegally.

Helloooooo? Lol

Um not it is not illeagal to have a rhd car in the US. You don't know what you are talking about. Just because a car is right hand drive does not automatically make it an illegal car.

Helloooooo? Lol

Tell that to almost everyone with a RHD and their problem of hiding it so it doesn't get seized lol.

Fact is most if not all RHD cars don't comply with US standards which makes them illegal. Not because the pedals are on the right side lol.

Go on the GTR forums, the evo forums. Everyone is having trouble keeping their rare precious RHD cars. My friend with an evo7 is gonna have to surrender his, just like he did with his R32 GTR.

Helloooooooo?

Qwik the cars u mentioned are illegal. Those were all not born here. If you have a car made here and do a RHD conversion nothing will happen. Car is still under us smog as well as registered as a US car since it is a US car. That's what renesis is saying. Evo 7 and gtr completely illegal.

Also I believe you can have a rhd Japan car if it's 25 years old or older.

^ Thank you, someone gets it.

As I said before, just because the car is RHD does not make it illegal.

What makes it illegal is the fact it was never federaly certified to operate on public roads in the US. If those skylines and evos were LHD they would still be illegal because they were never sold in the US in the first place.

hellooooooo?

There is a guy in Dallas with a RHD FD he brought into the country while he was in the military. It has plates and is registered, not sure how he did it but it's here. He won best Mazda in the car show at the last Import Faceoff here in Dallas.

There are many RHD FDs that are state registered, but like Renesis mentioned, they are NOT federally legal. Drive at your own risk...

Their time is hardly free, so I suspect either
1) he pissed off the wrong person.
2) there is a legitimate public safety issue that got the investigation going and that issue is not obvious from the article.

The article did say that he was outspoken on the matter, questioning the legality, etc and yet he owned two. Also, he was directing others (or providing details freely) about how to manipulate the various state/fed regs to get the paperwork. At the end of the day it was deemed fraudulent.

^ Short of importing RHD vehicles to smugglers for trafficing children in a prostitution ring to a drug lord who is an illegal imigrant....

It's still a big joke.....

And yes, I agree. Many of these cases ended up being an authoritie's personal mission or hopeful bullet statement for their next rank.

Regaurdless, it doesn't negate the facts. Imported RHD cars are illegal. You play with fire, you can get burned.

+1, you pays your monies and you takes your chances. If he didnt wanna get into trouble, he shouldn't have tried to sell illegal cars for 100k. If he kept them in his garage or his living room, he would still have them and would not even have the misdemeanor. Ya gotta stick to selling weed and crack, selling sweet *** cars which were restored from the frame up legally is just too damn dangerous now adays!

"He asks Beno if he has a title, can it be titled, could I get a (vehicle identification number)," Johnson said. "We'd expect Beno to say no, it can't be titled. He's got a letter, he's been told. But he responds that upon sale and payment, you can receive a Florida title and then go to the Department of Motor Vehicles and get a title transfer from Wisconsin. He's trying to circumvent, to get around the law."

If he just would have advertised them as Race Cars Only... he would have been fine!
