So what do you think? Rear subframe FD3S
Hey all
Had some trouble removing the rear control arm on my RX7 FD, as the bolt was ceased to the bushing So I had no choice but to cut the bolt and then this happened (sorry not sure how to get the photo to rotate....any help there as well? Lol)
This is on the rear subframe. What are the options:
1. Get it welded/repaired? Can it be welded ??
2. Replace the entire subframe
3. Would this NOT be an issue installing a new bolt and nut...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

The "eyebrows" for the eccentric are spot and mig welded in place, so eminently weldable, and I've had no great difficulty removing and tigging them in new positions either.
You could repair it, but I certainly wouldn't attempt it on-car. At that point it's probably easier and cheaper just to get another one, especially if paying someone to do the repair job. If the car is early, it would be an ideal opportunity to upgrade to the later one with the fore and aft stiffeners too.
Friction and a replacement fastener might hold if you don't bang into curbs. Irrc, there's the rubber ring behind it on that side which might get chewed up with that sharp edge perhaps, the slot itself looks pretty badly bent inwards or ovalled as well.
Whats's the jack stand doing? Looks like a bit of a precarious position, I wouldn't be very keen if the swearing and bashing takes place with that being the only support.

Thanks Billyboy
Appreciate the feedback. I would need to assess the cost to repair. If it’s too expensive then I might as well change the subframe and upgrade if the ‘94 subframe is considered the “older” version, which I assume it is.
My car is RHD, are the rear subframes from the LHD identical??
There are other stands in use to provide additional support. See a lot of guys on here use that location to put the stand, directly under the subframe.
cheers

Mostly use a hoist now, but if doing anything down that end with just 2 stands, like to have them on the east west bridge part of the subframe, so there's no chance of rocking off with any brute force taking place.
LH and RH interchange, from memory 94 is the changeover year, you can see the stiffening section near 34-222,. If your car is FD3S- 3XXXXXX, you'll definitely have the late subframe, I believe they were sold in the US as 95 year model, which might present issues in supply? A competent fabricator could modify an early one easily enough too.
