Separating front turn signal lens from housing?
Separating front turn signal lens from housing?
Hi all,
I'm sure many of you have done this in the past, but have searched and can't find any tips/info. I've purchased new lens to refresh the old ones, but am having trouble getting the lens separated from the light housing. I've used a dremmel to cut down the plastic tabs, but they still won't budge. There seems to be a gum-like substance, I assume to seal the lens to the housing, in play and making this difficult. Would heating this with a heat gun help? Thanks for any advice you may be able to offer!

Probably have to remove the lens like you would the tail lights - either VERY careful use of a heat gun or put them in the oven.
Read up on people who do the tail light conversions and how to take the tail lights apart, should be the same principle. I don't know of specifics with the turn signals but I bet it's a similar design.

preheat the oven on low
put the light assembly in there for about 10-12minutes, this will soften the glue
and then you need some flat thing (putty knife, fingernails, etc) and you can gently pry the lens off.

Thanks for the replies. This morning I applied heat with a hair drier for a few minutes and it was enough to allow me to pry the lens off. As I mentioned, I had already shaved the plastic tabs off the existing lens, which probably helped. Interesting that Mazda sells these lens separately from the full light unit - when trying to change them out you get the sense that they really weren't meant to come apart!
