In relative terms, a 1.6 liter rotary with an electric assist would be lighter than a Twin Turbo V-8 Bimmer with electric assist. But that's just the weight issue.

Sounds like we have to wait until the 2017 45th Tokyo Auto Show to see the production version of the new RX-7/RX-Vision revision.

Or Mazda new RX-7 not a full model change next-generation rotary engine SKYACTIV-R equipped RX-9? "Mazda RX-VISION" 2017 released in November! ! Announced at the Tokyo Motor Show 2017! !

2016/08/02

Mazda is promoting the development of the full model change of the new RX-7, it plans to start the sale in November 2017! !

It plans to formally announce the mass-production model at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017! !

Has that become a rumor to the development of the RX-7?
Do not the RX-9? Etc. also said he is but ... a lot of domestic and foreign media and automobile fan site as
RX-7 has been reported.

RX-. 7 is a model production in 2002 has been completed.
Is to 2003 to 2012 was released the RX-8, but now has been discontinued.

It has a number of lovers even now in the sports car equipped with a rotary engine Speaking of Mazda RX-7
It is a domestic sports car.

Appearance has adopted the "Tamashido" design
Released as a concept car in 2010 and it is said that or not than has the image of a "Mazda toughness (SHINARI)".

Have been described as "in the contemporary look, a is the concept of a sports car that embodies the pedigree of Mazda."

It has also been changed to a 2-door from the four-door "Mazda toughness (SHINARI)"
This that the rumor has also been said that or not is to mount the rotary engine, a concept model of 2010
It seems that it is the RX-7? RX-9, which was close to mass production car! !

And, at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015 44th to October 28, 2015
It announced a rotary sports concept "Mazda RX-VISION".
2016 at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2016, which was held at the Makuhari Messe was published of the second time on January 15 to 17 days.

July 21, 2016, Heritage Car events to be held at the Makuhari Messe 2 · 3 Hall on August 5 to 7 days
"Automobile Council 2016" in Automobile Council 2016??????? ??????
It announced that it will exhibit the Mazda RX-VISION.

Equipped with a "SKYACTIV-R (Sky Active Earl)" of the next generation RE rotary engine.

Because we think that the difficult thinking cost is to develop a new platform only for the new RX-7,
Or not to share the platform? it is said that.

Has already been announced to share the Alfa Romeo and the platform with respect to roadster,
The chassis and common, that it is the image, such as the size and change from the two-seater to a four-seater to a little longer
It is said.

In other words
Model that combines a newly developed SKYACTIV chassis + newly developed rotary engine
To become.

Mazda RX-VISION
Overall length: 4,389mm
Overall width: 1,925mm
Height: 1,160mm
Wheelbase: 2,700mm

There is also a likely possibility that the new RX-7 in early November 2017 will be released.

??? ?? RX-7 ????????? ???????????? SKYACTIV-R?? RX-9????????Mazda RX-VISION? 2017?11??????????????2017????? - ???????2016

Right on schedule for the anniversary of the 1967 Cosmo Sport release, but so frustrating to wait for any information on this turbo 16X terror.

Very exciting. I'd love to see an update of the JC Cosmo as well if the SkyActiv-R succeeds.

Just in case any were wondering about Mazda's vision, this quote from the CEO of MNA in a recent article from JapaneseNostalgic Car....

“Mazda has a never give up attitude and it is exemplified in the 767B,” says Masahiro Moro, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations and managing executive officer of Mazda Motor Corporation. “The race track is the perfect environment to showcase our history of continuous innovation. We use our historic racecars, not as static reminders of the past, but rolling, screaming, fire-breathing brand ambassadors for the future.”

Specs sound good, design evokes the FD. I like it.

Hope it's not exorbitantly expensive.

I suspect they'll finesse that, maybe not though. It's in keeping with the front end design of their current range.

Yeah, conventional ugly car.

As far as I can tell, it is Motoring AU's render not Mazda's.

Agree with you 100%, hopefully they go with the Vision's simplicity but still sexy!

Those sharp edges and creases aren't doing anything for me. The RX-Vision concept was much better.

Good that its coming out in 2020 then, time to save some money and climb the ladder at work some more

I guess it'll probably end up around £50k in the UK.

Everyone should wind back a bit and understand that the pics in the article are just a magazine render, not official Mazda.

Mazda really wants to keep me driving a 997S I take it. I pray that it's not 80k.

The plan was to build this on a extended Miata plaform correct? I know this new engine will be very advanced but I fail to see how this balloons to a 80k car. Plenty of cars with 400 HP out there that aren't 80k.

We can only wait until the officially word from Mazda.

The low volumes for the engine automatically make it expensive (although maybe not 80k expensive), unless Mazda is planning to put rotaries in more cars. They may be working on a rotary for hybrid use, but with gas prices so low hybrids aren't selling well and Mazda doesn't have much incentive to put a hybrid rotary into production (some kind of Volt competitor or something).

No, Mazda has said there will be no platform sharing again. They felt it made the NC MX-5 too compromised (heavy, compromised suspension/dimensions).

They must have designed the feather weight ND MX-5 to handle its 100hp and felt the drivetrain wasn't up to 400hp and the suspension wasn't up to 295mm tires.

I won't mind if Mazda builds a "halo" car again at $75k. Time to dethrone the Nissan GTR again.

Won't buy it, but might swap its 16X engine into a ND MX-5 if they ever make a coupe version.

Yeah, or just put the 16X in the old FD if the engine turns out to be the business...

Hire this guy.
Fire this guy.

If you like the upper car you are in luck. It looks like (a little bit of) every other current sports car.

The RX-Vision is a completely new design with very clean surfaces and and instantly classic proportions. WOW

if they make a 75k rotary 400hp lightweight sports car that rivals the GTR, they will sell a lot of them. I have my money ready... as long as it has a manual transmission.

Seriously people...take the time to read. The source that posted this said it was rendered by a Japanese magazine -- NOT Mazda.
