Unhappy Rpms jumping to 16k rpm haltech e8

Soooooo im back, this car refuses to play nice. ive attached a data log to show exactly what the problem is i cant get the rpms to read correctly over 5k. The car will rev fine with a little stumbling which i believe is tuning related, But as soon as it approaches the 5k mark it spiked to 16k every time causing the car to cut out. I just put two new cas sensors in to no avail Ive also tried to re shield the wire also nothing so at this point Im fully lost. I have also played around with the gain filters/gain control with again no results maybe theres something im missing

you might set the 16k cells for some safe value, like 85% injector duty, and some safe timing number.

you should try grounding both ends of the CAS wires, if that doesn't fix it its probably the ecu at this point

Fair point about the tuning with the 16k cells! What do you exactly mean by grounding both ends of the cas wires like straight off the sensors.it dose this weird thing where to have the timing on the mark while its running with -5 lock the trigger angle has to be set to a whaky 320 at this point i am wondering if its the ecu since its basically left everyone ive asked stummped

This is a classic problem with older Haltechs (crank angle sensor issues). My advice is to get a different ECU. I know you don't want to hear that, but it's cheaper than a new motor.

Not sure if it applies for your older model Haltech, but if it can be configured to accept a Hall effect crank angle sensor in lieu of the FD's factory variable reluctance (VR) CAS, switching over to one of those might be worth a try. The benefit of a Hall sensor is much better immunity to EMI. This would require some rewiring of your harness (Hall sensor needs +12V in/Ground & signal out wires), and obviously a re-tune. FFE makes a good Hall sensor & trigger wheel replacement for the FD's factory CAS.

When an aftermarket ECU shows drastically wrong numbers for engine speed, there's a chance it's also firing the ignition coils at the wrong angle. Putting 'safe' numbers in the maps won't help since the ECU is potentially triggering the coils 30+ degrees earlier than what the software says.
