i think its time for an update for the 2008 numbers. My bet is we have less than 9k registered now due to all kinds of circumstances.

Looking at the thread and the numbers that were posted

Oct 2005 total 9796
Jan 2007 total 9340
End of 2007 total 9087

Definitely time for an update. I'll PM the OP and see if he is up for it.

That end of 2007 number actually reflected figures from mid 2007 so close to 8000 cars could be a possibility at this point.
