PFC VS Adaptronic

Hi guys,

I have read a few threads where people compare PFC vs adaptronic, must of them seem to not really get much into detail and are from many years ago. So I wanted to ask for my goals is it better to go adaptronic or PFC.

Goals: wanting to make around 330WHP and 400WHP max.
Exhaust: 100% straight pipe
Engine: Apexi cold air intake, Vmount intercooler, Twin Power
Turbo: stock Twin Turbos

Now I do want to add AI later down the road as well as BNR TTs but aside from that I dont think I will do any other "power" Mod

So with all this said what would be better?
Also I was hoping Adaptronics would chime in and talk a bit more about there "push to pass" and about the switching of maps on the fly.

Also, do launch control and traction control work with stock (ABS) sensors? These are the sort of modern features that would make it easier to rationalize upgrading

Buy whichever your tuner is better with. That's always a smart idea. They are both good, but the pfc seems to have more traction with current buyers.

This. 100% this.

Go with whatever tuner is local to you / will be doing the tuning.

Real Talk: The PFC works better with stock setup.

If you can't track down a decent tuner, you shouldn't mod an rx7.

I personally have very limited experience with using both, but I did go to a PFC on mine shortly before swapping it for the adaptronic when I found one used. I'm curious what things specifically you like more about the PFC with the stock setup? Do you mean totally stock or just stock sequential setup? One thing for me is I didn't realize that the adaptronic wouldn't be able to run the air pump (without sacrificing something else, at least), which I had taken great pains to keep (doh). Does the PFC do this?

To the OP:

I am currently waiting with high anticipation for the new adaptronic series that has much more I/O as I want to experiment with features like boost by gear, traction control, direct fire with sequential twins, etc. I believe its supposed to have the same price as the existing model? If I were you, I'd wait for this one, but I think it depends on what you want out of your engine computer. Are you satisfied with what the PFC does? It seems to have a long history of doing it well and there is a lot of support and documentation out there. Do you want to have the potential for more modern features and control (granted it may not be possible yet or easy to figure out how to do it)? Maybe look at the adaptronic. I'm waiting for the day that they release and port over Eugene for Android and I can hook up my ECU to my 7" double DIN touch screen 'head unit'.. no clunky PFC controller to make adjustments or loads of aftermarket gauges in the cockpit to monitor things then!

PFC: time tested, proven, does what you tell it to do, commander is nice for monitoring various parameters but you won't be doing much tuning with it. Lacks failsafes and features.

Adaptronic: relatively new, lots of features and capabilities, has had some bugs.

If it were me I'd stay simple and go with the Power FC. Or better yet something more powerful like a Haltech Elite or AEM Infinity.

Haltech also has a PnP patch loom and will run the sequential turbos. We also produce PnP full replacement harnesses for sequential and single turbo applications. AEM Infinity doesn't have enough I/O to run the sequentials but is a good choice for single turbo setups.

The Haltech Elite is a much more proven and stable platform than either the older or latest Adaptronic. It can be combined with the OE ABS and utilize traction control. The PFC really can't be included in the conversation if you're interested at all in real auxiliary functions like TC, closed loop boost control, speed or gear based boost, push to pass, flex fuel, etc.
