New FD Owner - Whats The First Thing To Do? First Mods?
Hey, I just bought an 1993 FD as a project car. What is the first thing I should inspect in order to determine the reliability of my vehicle? Also what are the first modifications to also improve the reliability. Can’t wait to meet the Rx-7 community.

There are several threads you can read up on reliability mods. What i did was:
- New cooling system - Koyo radiator + all new hoses from Mazda + new AST from Mazda
- HKS downpipe to remove the precat heat trap in the engine bay.
- Fuel system hoses and fuel pulsation damper.
- Test and possible change the oil injectors on each rotor.
- Rats nest vacum job with silicone hoses.

Welcome!
Big thing is get all the maintenance up to date, then start looking at what the car is telling you.
If you don't have a rock-solid documentation of the maintenance history, assume none of it's been done. New plugs and plug wires, drain/fill coolant, change oil and filter, change diff and transmission oil, flush brake fluid.
Inspect belts, brakes, and tires. Tires have date codes on them, look that up and see how old they are. If they are close to 10 years old, replace them, even if they have good tread.
DRIVE the car. Find out how it runs, get used to it, and enjoy it. Start figuring out what it needs and what jumps out at you - clunk in the rear end? Bad idle? Ratty interior that's driving you nuts? Let the car tell you what it needs.
Once you get to a good baseline then you can start looking at fun stuff.
Zepticon lists a lot of great stuff to do, but get it to a solid baseline first.

If you have the stock ECU, you can also check for any silent codes by jumping two ports on the diagnostic box in the engine bay.
I'd also check that all your warning lights work, most all of them should come on when you twist the key before you start the car.
Probably a good idea to take a look at all the suspension/steering components under the car too for anything thats obviously worn out or broken.

Unlike other forums, The FAQ thread is a great resource for useful threads and answers to this sort of question
