New FD owner here in York, Pa

I just picked up a new project vehicle here and I was looking for someone who could swing by and lend a hand with basic knowledge and some directions I could take in getting this thing up and back on the road.

I am comming from the oposite side of the world// I am an ex owner of and Acura Integra Type R. I just have some questions and concerns and I would really appriciate some help with this project.

It is a 1993 VR Touring FD

I hope to hear from someone soon.

Hi.

I work in West York, live in N. York near Newberrytown. I know the stock setup pretty well.

Zach Keller is in York about 1/4 mi from the fairgrounds - he and his friends have a couple FDs and he's always working on them. His is a monster - what plans do you have for modding them?

Dave

I actually want to keep the motor relativly stock.. My plans are a weekend car and an occasional HPDE car as well.

I just need some help determining my current condition of the vehicle motor wise as well as some preventive maintenence.

I am about 2 miles off the Leader Heights exit on 83.

Currently the car is not tagged and I have not started it up because of feared problems the previous owner brought to my attention that I want to fix before I do so.

I think I could be of help. My car is fairly stock and I've spent the last 2 years doing reliability mods and maintenance. Feel free to email me at geesaman at newsguy.com or call 571-4318.

When do you typically work on it? What problems must you fix first?

Dave

That would be awesome.. I am in the learning phases as of now.. Not really confortable with all stuff.

as the car sits, no front bumper or hood.

I need to replace the radiator and look into a coolant leak. I would just really like an extra set of eyes and a seasoned vet to show me some stuff.

I will give you an email this week so maybe we can get together and go over some stuff.

Thanks a lot Dave

You can have my stock radiator as soon as I install my Fluidyne. Which is whenever I get around to it

A more in depth look at things this evening.. I found lots of fluid all over the bottom of the car. I will be taking a closer look at where it is comming from and I guess start preparing for a rebuild.

Since I have nothing but time, I am going to attempt to do this myself

I am free on Saturday. Assuming I can get my Maxima fixed (parts need to arrive and the axle seal needs to not leak this time), I'll plan to stop by. I don't have much experience diagnosing engines, but I do have a couple of tools and I know my way around most of what's under the hood.

Maybe Zach Keller has a compression tester you can borrow.

Josh,

I am real close to you. I'm on Linden Ave, about three blocks down from the fairgrounds.

I am willing to give you a hand. I know these cars inside and out as well. I have a stash of spare parts too.

We can check your compression, etc.

Hey Dave, still need to use the press? Are you back in town?

Yep, back in town. Knock on wood I don't need the press at the moment. Trying to get my clutch r&r on the Maxima finished off, but I'm waiting on a freaking circlip.

I got my car all sorted out.

It runs 110%. I decided to completely overhaul the fuel system. That was a task.

I am now running an external Aeromotive A1000 pump and a sumped tank. 8AN uo the rails were I y off to each rail. Pretty sweet. Plenty of fuel now to support my 22PSI boost habit

Just watch out for this guy, next thing you know he'll have stripped out everything but a longblock, huge intercooler, and single turbo, and then you'll have to rebuild you engine every winter. :o)

I think I'll be sure to take my FD down there so I can have my compression tested, too. Hopefully still in the mid-8s.

who says that isn't my plan. LOL.. actually want to do a single or non sequential turbo set up for HPDE stuff.

Looking at what I have... Rebuild is on the top of my list..

Not to mention, front end was driven into a tree by the previouse owner.. So I need to determine if a bumper and cover would go on with out any probs.

This is a toy car, So I am in no hurry to get it on the road, <--- although it would be really nice to

I am somewhat close to you in Lancaster. Just keep in mind that you have enough legit sources around you to not trust anyone outside a close circle. As Zach will agree with, there are plenty of extremely shady people in this area, so just make sure you know who you are dealing with before you let people help.

As far as Zach helping, as DGEE stated before, get ready to lose lots of $$ and a few engines before everything is perfect. Do you even know what stock means anymore Zach? :-p He definitely knows his stuff though and will get you started just fine, as long as he understands everyone else runs pump gas

Also, this is something you can all check out. It is a recently started local club based around Mazda, so there is a variety of vehicles. Since it is so new, all they have done so far is meetings, but the leadership seems to be very focused on getting activities rolling as soon as this summer. As of now, there are only 3 rotary members, so the more the merrier

Zach - Do you still have the pulley adjustment? I will be playing softball again this year in York, so I will be over there every Monday and Wednesday night. I have kinda gotten used to no P/S, but would be nice to remember what it feels like again. Also, I have about 250 miles until full boost, can't wait!

Ricky,

Did you get that Haltech straightened out yet? I assume so. Whoever sold you that unit gave you a hell of deal.

I can still wrench on cars in stock form.

Sometimes it would be nice to have her stock again, but she's a hoot to drive a 22PSI. I do have a 15PSI pump gas setting too for those days when I have to take grandma to the grocery store .
