My old Alpine 7982 was acting up. When the car vibrated enough the radio would switch itself on because one of the membrane switches was worn out. I have since replaced it with an Eclipse 56050

My Oxford Italian dictionary says that it scuderia means stable. Which kind of makes sense, the "poor stable." Where the Ferrari's are the in the rich stable. I will SMS a friend and have an answer in the morning.

Uh
I just looked at the italian dictionary and says nothing about that
However looking at the italian-english one it says what you said.
Maybe I am wrong, but intended as "house for horses" may be right, but surely not as "steady"

Damon, could you post a pic of the receiver / hitch? I can't picture it... seems it would be so low...

I've heard it used on other race teams (like Damon's) but maybe they are just emulating S.F.?

Thanks marix 1521. Damian has good pics as always. My hitch is the same. All that hangs below the bumper is the small receiver itself, it does not extend farther to the rear than the plastic trim underneath, merely hangs below.

You can just make out the hitch in this pic:

Schweet. I need a trailer bad. I just had to miss an open track event last night due to wet roads between here and there, track tires with no real tread, and no way to haul the car or the tires.

And I just happen to have a friend who's looking to unload his mini trailer... hellooooo UHaul

what weight can the FD trailer safely/effectivly? Any maximum trailer size recommendations? I would guess that towing weight would be dictated by the hitches rating yes? If so , what is yours rated at?

Also, are the #'s on your car a magnetic attachment? As i don't see them in any other photos of your car.

Dave

Towing with an FD is a disgrace! That is like putting one of those LS1 V8's in an FD!!!

No looks great though seriously, Ill probably go with a setup like that in the future. For now I just throw on the Toyo RA1's and drive to the event.

The hitch is rated for 1500 lbs gross, 200 lbs tongue or something like that. Way more than you need for a tire trailer, but I think it is probably best not to test the limits anyway.

For anyone considering a tire trailer, avoid the smallest trailer wheels/tires. The larger trailer wheel+tires seem to hold up a lot better. A friend and I drove to a track event one day, both with our trailers. He has a C5 and his trailer has the smallest tires. My trailer has tires that are larger than the smallest ones. He popped several tires on our 200 mile trip, and we bought out every spare tire that Wal-Mart had along the way. I've never popped a trailer tire in several years and perhaps 1500 miles of driving.

Yep. The littlest ones are on 8" wheels and the larger ones are on 12" wheels. I've had my trailer for years now and the 12" tires don't even look worn.

I don't keep a spare trailer tire but I do have a plug kit. There's a compressor in the trailer so I figure that will suffice unless I just shred one. Someday I'll drop by Harbor Freight for a spare and I'll hang it from the trailer axle.

I'll third what they say about getting the trailer with 12" wheels. I got my trailer used. The guy that I bought it from installed some hubs that are greasable with some zerk fittings. That comes in very handy. He also mounted a spare on the tongue with a U-bolt.

That is a kick-*** setup, and extremely functional to boot.

I do have to wonder if there are any long term "health" issues to the car if you use it for towing? For some reason I am reminded of watching my neighbor chain his 10 week old pit bull puppy to concrete blocks and force him to pull them around the yard.....

No health issue unless you're trying to tow campers or something My fully loaded trailer probably weighs 300 pounds? The far majority of that weight is supported by the trailer wheels, the car just pulls it along. It's not hard on the car at all, you don't even know the trailer is back there. Most guys try to keep their tire trailers low profile for less wind resistance. I tow mine at 75mph over long distances all the time with no trouble. Gas mileage is only slightly worse, no doubt due to the increased drag rather than pulling the weight of the trailer.

I think an FD would pull a jet ski just fine. Tongue weight is how much of the trailer weight rests on the hitch of the car. If you balanced the load on the trailer perfectly your tongue weight would be zero. My tongue weight is around 20 pounds; that's how much weight the rear of the car feels when the trailer is attached. Jet skis, motorcycles etc would all tow fine.

Yeah, I'm done with the 8" trailer tires
Over the weekend I had a nice shred on the highway

Luckily I had just passed a buddy of mine that was pulling his car with a pick-up truck.
We picked up my trailer and set it in the bed of his truck, and off we went

I'm assuming that it would be unwise to use 2 FD spare tires as trailer tires? That would look rad lol
