My FD as a tow vehicle

When I was installing the trailer hitch on my car a while back quite a few members of this board freaked out and let me know how it was a disgrace, that I would hurt the car somehow since it wasn't designed to tow or that I was just generally an idiot. So this is for those guys!

Na na na na na ya!!!:p:

And once the race tires are off the trailer and on the car you can go do this:

redrotorR1 03-12-03 09:20 AM

Yes, yes. On my list of things to do. I'm getting tired of asking friends to drag tires to events.

On another note ... wow, y'all have a nice lot to play on in DFW. Hopefully, those trees aren't as close to the course as they look in the picture. ;)

I've seen Damon's set up, and it is very clean, and more important, very functional.

nice pics, and as always, your car looks great!

vudoodoodoo 03-12-03 10:14 AM

TTurboXfd3s 03-12-03 10:18 AM

HAHAHA wt.... still not a great idea! and it probably doesn't haul as much as any truck, but nice showing off the guys who clowned you and didn't believe you. :)

hey DamonB, where did you get the hitch setup. PM me

maxcooper 03-12-03 11:36 PM

Tire trailers are great! I used to pack my car chock full of wheels and crap to go to the track. Unloading and reloading it was a PITA. Now if I am late (highly probable), I can just run on my street tires with street brakes for the first session, and I only have to remove a few items from the car.

Now I pack it all into my little trailer. It fits a 10'x10' EZ-Up, four 18x10 wheels with 285 tires, a beefy jack, a couple of tool boxes, a few boxes of supplies, a little toolbox/seat thing I keep my brake pads in, and two lawn chairs. It takes a while to pack and unpack it, but it doesn't take as long as it did with less stuff packed in the car. Here's a picture:

I got my hitch for $275 installed from the local U-Haul place, including the wiring, locks, etc. They cracked the $130 trim piece along the back of the hatch area, but they reimbursed me 100% for replacing it without much hassle. The hitch isn't very noticable, as the receiver (I think that's what it's called) is just situated right below the black plastic piece under the bumper cover.

I don't know how much it weighs, but I don't think it is very heavy. It would probably interfere with a rear diffuser. That and the extra weight are the only real downsides.

Scuderia simply means 'team' in italian, so them both having 'scuderia' in the name would just be because they are a race team

Scuderia Ferrari!

BicuspiD 03-13-03 01:29 AM

The literal Italian/English translation for Scuderia is "stable"

Some of the English definitions for Stable are

1)Resistant to change of position or condition; not easily moved or disturbed: a house built on stable ground; a stable platform.
2)Not subject to sudden or extreme change or fluctuation: a stable economy; a stable currency.
3)Maintaining equilibrium; self-restoring: a stable aircraft.
4) All the racehorses belonging to a single owner or racing establishment.
5)The personnel employed to keep and train such a group of racehorses.
6)A group, as of athletes or entertainers, under common management: a stable of prizefighters

Being Ferrari, any of those definitions could apply adequately, but I am inclined to believe the group of racehorses one was their meaning..

Max, you can fit all that inside the trailer? :p: You can see I just have a truck bed tool box bolted onto mine. It keeps a jack and stands, torque wrench, tools, garden sprayer, chair, a cooler (no beer allowed at the track though :( ), small air compressor and other misc stuff like a tire gauge and straps. With the trailer fully loaded the tongue weight is only about 25 pounds; it pulls beautifully down the highway all day long.

cover8 05-11-05 10:12 AM

I wonder what the tongue weight is for a jet ski? :)

TheCrazyAZN 05-11-05 10:23 AM

What the... back from the dead....

st0k3d 05-11-05 11:29 AM

i used to work for uhaul as a hitch installer... i used to put hitches on s2000's and c5 vettes all the time for tire trailers (that and loser old people for bike racks)... never got an FD in, and we had a guy with an NSX call about a price but never came for it

Mdessouki 05-11-05 02:10 PM

They use "disgrace " and it wasnt designed for it crap way too often arround here. Sure it adds a little weight but is a huge convience.

these are all correct
but usually "scuderia" is intended as car racing team or a horse racing team
very rarely is used for bikes, but don't ask me why...

instead "stable" is absolutely INCORRECT
change dictionary

PhoenixDownVII 05-11-05 03:33 PM

I see that setup all of the time at the autox, its a good idea.

Fortunately for me, the airport that I am autox'ing at is accross the street from my house, a literal 2 mile trip...so I can change the tires at home (heheheeee). Or my friend who races his accord (for kicks lol, he's fixing up his new FD) can bring my 2nd set of rims for me ;P

Damon: You race with your radio on? (Antennae's up on that photo lol)
