Miata-rx7 FD powered

Hi Everyone.
When I signed up long ago and introduced myself, I generated interest in my Miata with an FD engine. I can now post the location of the build thread:

Enjoy!

How would you compare the time, effort, and expense you invested to the end result (fun, pride, etc)? The article is very well done and I enjoyed it.

Wow!

I'm in awe of anyone who has the skill and patience to successfully complete such a complex and time-consuming project!

Thank you wstrohm and DaveW.

To answer your question wstrohm, I had a lot of fun building the car and then tweaking it at the race track. I just had a track day last Thursday and I beat my personal best lap time by 3 seconds so I must be doing something right.
The expense while building I decided not to count as I was after quality so I got only the best I could afford such as the 6 pot Endless brakes and Cusco suspension.
Engine is stock. Headers, aftermarket intercooler from Bell, and cold air intake is all I did.

Why did you swap the suspension and do all the fab work?
Isn't the engine/transmision/differential a much easier job without all the crazy fab work? And with a similar end result?

Wow not your average swap, to say the least. Get some video up, if you can. Would love to hear and see it go.

HI $lacker.

To answer your question. I didn't think (still don't) that the Miata suspension could handle twice the power it was designed for. I have 3 NAs with various power mods and the Miata components look puny beside the rx7 parts. You'd probably blow or twist a lot of shocks and bushings using the Miata bits.

When using the rx7 susprension, the shock towers in the rear would go through the top of the body as they are pretty long compared to the Miata suspension. It's been a while since I've finished this and I think there is another reason for the rear...might be the diff and suspension bearers. Not sure.

In other words, I erred on the side of longevity. And the car has held together for about 4 years and counting.

Narfle,

Video. Good idea. Let you know when I do another track day and hook up the GoPro.
