Matching door trims RHD and LHD
Matching door trims RHD and LHD
I never liked how the door trims and handles don't match.
So i contacted tomsn16 on this forum who sells rx7 fd parts and got him to
send me in Australia a US LHD passenger side door trim, door lock, cables, door cup, grab handle,
window switch and dash end trim to put on my RHD drives side.
I also added very large 6x9 speakers to the door trims.
Test fitted everything to see how it works and to see what needs to be done before i cover the grab handles in
carbon fiber and cover the door trims in black alcantara.
Also have to work on moulding the dash end the same as the passenger side to
fit the LHD dash plastic end piece.
Here are some pics to see how it looks so far.

Not quite following that you are fitting LHD parts on an RHD?
Or are you indicating that you are making new pieces?
Is your aim to make both sides look the same?
You are therefore giving up on the mirror switch and the master window switch?

The idea is to make both door trims match, each window switch works on each door trim, and the master window switch i might put in the center console or in the ash try.
And the mirror switch i might put in the door cup at the back just haven't got around to it yet.

I personally don't mind the asymmetry between the passenger and driver door panels, but this is actually a cool idea! I totally support this
Would like to see how it looks when the door is closed

As we LHD owners know there is no grab handle to close the DS door with so we pull the door cup....and that is why the flimsy switch panel and door card are always cracked or broken.
Of course for LHD owners the opposite will happen, replace the LHD driver's side panel with the RHD passenger door card. This may indeed be a simpler (cheaper) solution for replacing broken up LHD drivers side panels. Although RHD passenger handles are becoming a rare commodity as well.
Maybe mount the master window switch and mirror switch at the dome light position.

Applaud the ambition, but I'm another that doesn't mind the asymmetry. Seems like you're fixing something that isn't broken. I'm also thinking that MAZDA's intention was to have a bit less intrusion into the driver's space (without the handle), especially in the elbow/shoulder area where you need it. And doing this makes it even that much more cramped.
We have not seen the rest of the car. Maybe this is part of an overall radical build. Easy enough to reverse this particular work with spare RHD parts, I'd reckon.

just fixing something to my personal taste.
What i have found so far is the door is much easier to close with the handle and because the top of the handle sticks out a bit you can rest you wrist / forearm on it while holding
the steering wheel when driving.
One thing that's different is the door lock is moved further back so to open the door you have to lift your elbow up more.
like with the door trims so far i have 7 of them one original set, 2 other sets that have different mod's and one LHD.
Somebody stop this man and save that poor car!
Ok, all kidding aside, it IS your car and of course feel free to do what you want. You have the luxury of having much more available parts, i.e. panels and such, to work with being RHD, than us owners of LHD cars do. There simply aren't very many OEM door panels for LHD cars left in the known free world. I found a couple and they are stupid expensive...I made a thread on it a while back.
