My CYM has 97k on it currently. It had about 85k on it in 2001. Modded quite nicely (IMHO) for auto-x and streetability.

I like your approach. Someone bought a 5spd MB FD a few years ago with 6k on it and within 2 years it was at 50k just like any other FD. I see no point in daily driving a car like this.

You know, as a car community we whine about how our cars aren't getting more valuable like collector cars. But very few of us are willing to buy an FD and treat it like a collector car.

I am. 45k miles - 25k in the last 14 years (it had 20k on it when I bought it used in '97). Seen rain 6 times...all 6 were when I was at the track. Always garage kept.

oh and quite pampered :-)

I found a dealership in Japan specializing in RX7's only. There was an entire row of RX7's with less than 1,000 KM. They were selling starting around $25,000 at the time, but that could be closer to $34,000 at today's exchange rates, and that was less than a year ago too. They didn't show up in the used or new inventory either for some reason. I don't know what the deal was with those cars, but I haven't ever seen a dealership like that again.

Ownership Update

A couple of cars have changed owners over the past week or so. We welcome the names in bold to the ''CYM Owner's Club."

I am consolidating all of the individual thread posts in to the list to keep it current. Also, since we all dream our cars will be collector's items some day I am listing the provenance of the vehicles if known. Since all of you know at least the last owner, you could do the same. If you know a CYM owner, send them a link to this thread.

I may have a V8 in mine, but I'm not sacrilegious enough to do that to a CYM Mine was originally white and then painted velocity yellow tintcoat(06 z06 color) by the previous owner.

That does remind me though, there is a guy over on norotors that did do that to a CYM. Don't remember who. If I remember or find it, I'll post it over here.

I don't have any idea who currently owns the 2 CYM's I've previously owned. I don't think Fritz owns any CYM's currently either. No telling how many he has had pass through his hands though. He had Brad Barber and Wael's car. I know he had the CYM that had the yellow wheels on it a couple years ago and sold it along with countless others.

Another CYM that has been a track car for a long time is John Epperly's CYM. He gutted it and put a full cage in it back in the mid 90's and turned it into a race car. I think he races spec miata's now. I saw the car pop up on ebay starting in 08 and as recently as last year. I'm pretty sure he still owns it.

EDIT: Oh yeah, spyfish007 totaled his first CYM. Don't remember who purchased his second one. I'll get out of here now, I'm starting to show how long I've been creeping around these parts for...

Yep mine is not a R1. It's a base model, no sunroof, one oil cooler, no bose system. Love it.

I think we should put some pics of our CYM to make a kind of registry. I found this old thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ht=cym+picture but the pics are a bit outdated.

Here is mine:

I would be willing to be the owner of a CYM registry if people were interested in participating. I would manage pics in my photobucket account and would create a GoogleDoc spreadsheet with car details (VIN, stock or modified, production date, ownership, mileage, etc..

I already have pictures of most of your cars that I use as a screen saver on my PC and I've kept some details of sales via eBay and AutoTrader.

Maybe we could even gets Chudsoncoupe to do a 2012 CYM calendar

Here are a couple of pictures of mine.

There is a Sherriff's Deputy in Gainesville, FL named Manuel that owns a CYM. He married someone who works for a client of mine. The car has not moved from his garage in over 4yrs to the best of my knowledge because it needs an AC line. IIRC it was very low mileage. Next time I'm home I'll try and get the mileage.

There is another very low mileage CYM in town owned by an older gentleman that I only know of because he took it to a Ford Dealership where a friend works. The clutch switch had broken. I called BS until my friend whipped out his cell phone with pics. It was at 36xxx miles a year ago.

Gainesville is just silly...we have had so many FD's here for such a small population (around 20 in the last 2yrs) but even then to have 2 guys who have no connection to the rest of the rotary owners to have two, low mileage CYM's is even more unusual.

Here's a couple more. Front latch shroud is now covered in CF (with air filter on).

Air filter off from passenger side.

Early Amemiya Dolphin Tail exhaust.

SakeBomb tails

Yes, new Commander. Much, MUCH better visibility in all lighting conditions!

Notice on the interior shot that my car has Factory Bose. It was dealer installed by the second owner of the car. Won't see that everyday in a CYM... Also notice that the dash is signed by Takaharu (Koby) Kobayakawa, Project Manager for Gen 3 development at Mazda

You'll have a blast! VIR and CMP shouldn't be too far from you. VIR is the best track on the east coast IMO and their is no one that has more seat time at VIR or an FD than Fritz. Not to mention, you will get more enjoyment out of 20 minutes on the track than most owners ever get to experience. Fritz is really good about giving rides, but make sure he gives you a ride. That's what originally hooked me back when. Even driving "conservatively" because he has a passenger, he's a wild man.

With all of the talk of low mileage, all original cars... I like your approach alot more . I've never purchased a car and said, "it's perfect." I've always wanted to do x,y, or z to make it better, safer, and more enjoyable. I'd rather drive a car and enjoy it for it's designed purpose, rather than let it sit. That's like having a super hot wife/gf and just looking at her. If I'm investing in something to make money, it's certainly not going to be a car. No offense to anyone who does have an all original, low mileage CYM as we all have our own hobbies that make us happy. Mine can certainly be broken down to make me look like an idiot .
