Acura seems to be headed in the wrong direction with the overweight, overpriced new NSX.
Yep
The NSX doesn't know which direction it's going in. I'd just buy a used Ferrari. Basically it hasn't separated itself from the pack in any way shape or form.
As far as the BMW m2 goes a 10 to 1 car isn't even competing against mustangs and camaros. So for a 10k up charge for the privilege wearing a cool badge but getting my *** kicked I'll say no thanks and back to the drawing board there as well.
The only new car right now that looks interesting to me is the ford gt350. Similar to the corvette it's a lot of car for the money and doesn't look bad either.
There is still room for a car that's affordable, weighs 2800 pounds and makes 350 HP. Fingers crossed that some smart company understands that weight matters more than power when it comes to enjoying a sports car. However if this car isn't made who cares because I already own it and it's 100 pounds lighter
After giving up two FDs, I'm never giving another FD up again. Just picked one up and its under going a bit of an overhaul atm. Planning on picking another one up and just so I can have two
had 2 also. I got my third and will keep it to only trade and sell for other FD's in the future haha. I got my jeep to get me around everyday and the FD to track and weekend.

It's an obvious hole in the market. The previous owner of my FD got a Porsche Cayman – I suppose it's a logical choice.
Most of the competitive choices have some kind of deal-killer: excess weight, gormless engine, soft handling, poor balance, or ugly looks. It does make me appreciate what we have. When the only valid competitors are Ferraris, Porsches, and Lotuses, it give you a feeling that you drive something unique.
I don't mind the C7 Corvette and the Dodge Viper, but they're too heavy and they're not as sharp as the RX-7. Sometimes more is just more, whether it's engine power, chassis stiffness, downforce, or grip. A great car is all about getting that sublime balance of things... it's highly subjective.
Also, I have mixed feelings about the proliferation of stripped FD track conversions. On one hand, it's a logical decision to take the car to its ultimate potential. On the other hand, it does leave a lot fewer "pristine" FDs for street driving.
They're sold out, so nearly impossible to get. No doubt Porsche will make another hardcore variant of the Cayman later on, considering how well the GT4 sold.

If I was in the market, I'd take the new Lotus Evora 400 for a test drive. Too bad the Lotus Exige Sport 350 isn't street legal in North America.
The GT4 looks to be a great car. Still a little heavy for me though.
Also the 20k plus up charge is a bit much. 110 or 120 for a cayman is beyond stupid. Buy a used cayman, mod it and kick the GT4s ***
I'm probably too practical to buy any new sports car but I love dreaming about new cars LOL
PS The lotus's are the most expensive, slowest sports cars on the planet (this statement is an exaggeration if it hurts anyone's feeling my apologies in advance/just not a huge fan of these cars because of their cost to buy/own etc...).

Well, I won't be giving up my FD anytime soon, but I do plan to get a hold of a Scion FRS to ruin with a V8 swap sometime later in the year. I figure that seems like a recipe for a fun little car.
I've owned my obtainable dream car for over 18yrs now. I love my FD. If however I win the lottery, the only other vehicle I would ever consider owning would be this:
It's still reasonably obtainable provided you won the lottery. She's a beaut!
If however I managed to win an obscene amount of money, it would be one of these:
I've deeply considered selling my FD to buy an R32 GTR for a few months. Depending on my income, as I'm changing careers in a few months, I suspect I would probably end up in a 2008 M3, or keep my 2011 F-150 and get into motorcycles finally. I suspect in the coming months I will end up getting a bike regardless. Can't beat the fun and mpg of a bike.
I don't have an FD which is why I am jealous of you all. Don't give this car up.
If you did, I would think it was for the money in which case, your choices would be very limited. If that's the case, I'd go with a gen 1 or 2 Rx7. If I wanted something newer but not in an outrageous price range, I'd go with the 370Z which is what I drive in addition to my 84 SE. Not a Chevy man.
Why does the FD have to be given up? Why can't the garage space just get bigger?

You simply MUST see the irony in an RX-7 owner making any claims about cost of ownership, directed at a car with Toyota powertrains?

After reading these posts, I dug out my original 1993 Mazda Rx7 FD sales brochure. Back when they were paper full color and like a book. Now I am more jealous than ever. I can't help but argue that the FD shape, symmetry, and style has not aged. It looks as good as anything on the market. I have a Nissan 370Z. Nissan gave the new Nismo a bunch of angles to set it off from my base model. That seems to be the trend, lot's of angular sections, squared off pieces that used to flow, and I don't like it. The FD's pure shape and style is so much better.
What is wrong with the Toyota drive train? I had looked at gen 2 Toyota MR2s and if this is a mistake, I need to know.
You folks with the FD's, I really envy you. If I can land this new job....at my old age...after being forced out of pubic education for being politically Incorrect....

I popped into the forum to post my E39 M5 for sale and started surfing the forum for old times sake. You break my heart j/k.
I think the platform is pretty affordable to step into now, depending on what you want to start from. I just finished installing and shaking out the kinks for a TVS supercharger install. 270whp on a 1800# chassis
