If you had to give up your FD
How does it compare to your old 500HP white FD? Which felt faster at take off, pull and high speed acceleration?
Completely different, I mean we're comparing a T04R car to a Supercharged car. The NSX has a very linear power curve.... much like stock, but alot more power.
The NSX, I can be rolling at 2,000 rpm's, punch it and it will instantly haze the tires where the RX7 took a minute to spool up.
But, the RX7 was a more pucker your butt experience

You're describing torque man. Something an FD does NOT have, at least in the lower revs. A sc'ed nsx will have an assload more low end torque compared to a single fd. So it will feel faster putting around town.
S2000 and Lotus Elise are probably some of the only vehicles that would actually satisfy an FD owner. There are many vehicles out there that I think I would like to have for a number of different reasons but very very few vehicles can match or top the FD in terms of driving experience. Anything over 3000 lbs is going to feel like it and few newer vehicles can offer the pure experience. They really broke the mold when they produced the FD. The upcoming Subaru/Toyota RWD sports car still does not have a 50/50 weight balance, will be slow in comparison (at least until the STI version) and does not have a classic original design. I am looking forward to the BRZ though, hopefully it will be a huge success and get Mazda motivated.
I've driven quite a few cars and there isn't really anything like the FD, but this little bastard was quite satisfying to drive.

I drove an S-drive 35i model. They are quite a hoot to drive. Super quick and nimble. Obviously the look of them takes some getting used to. And the fact that its a Z4.

^ I got a quick spin in one of those this past summer when BMW had some olympic charity drive. Hammered it a few times up to about 80 or so, and it's definitely got ***** although it's about 600 or so pounds heavier than our FDs, though I was guessing it was in the 3200 neighborhood as I whipped it around a few corners. A nice package, crazy price (over $60K), but its lines are not as nice as the previous Z4 M coupe's.
If you had to give up your FD, what "reasonable" car would you upgrade to?
I think for it to be worth it, I would have to get probably the next closest best thing to an FD and get a z06. Although I've never driven one, the two cars seem to have the same base. Throw on a turbo and/or supercharger and you'll have a pretty quick and light car.
I've also heard a lot of FD people upgrade to 966 TT's but for some reason, I've never liked Porsche.

i was recently at the back of a convoy of 4 s2000s going round some nice country roads, was quite cool - 4 s2000s in a line with the FD pushing them faster from behind.
they are nice but i could not replace my FD with one.

A slightly modified (cosmetic and performance) NSX like viking's or perhaps a single turbo supra are prob the only 2 other import cars i would replace the FD with. Realistically, of course with more money on top of my existing FD value.
But everytime i see one daily, everytime i see one at a car meet, when i see vids of them, i really feel closer in getting rid of the FD for one even though i made a pact 8+ years ago ill never leave the FD. Its just a proper car.

Theres no replacement for displacement.
