Driver door handle replaced, CPU now chimes with door ajar
Hello, happy November!
I replaced my exterior driver door handle with an aluminum one today and it works great. I believed I reassembled exactly as I took apart (only 20 mins later) but I am seeing some odd behavior, I believe -
1. The door chime goes off whenever the door is open and no key is in ignition. This is louder than the key-in-ignition sound. No lights are on. If I hold up on the door handle while open the chime noise stops.
2. The light around the key ring no longer lights.
Dale, thank you for the response. I pulled it apart once more and everything appears ok. I didn't see anything odd with any of the wires looking them over either. The filament in the bulb appears intact from what I can tell. Should the bulb light up whenever the door is open with the other stuff out (see pic)? Any way to test with a multimeter? Thanks.
When I lock the car on the drivers side using the interior lock, it locks both doors. I had left the window down, so I reached in and hit the unlock button again and could then get in (beeping noise commences). If I go to the passenger side and unlock using the key hole, the beeping goes away. So it appears like it may be security system related, and potentially to the lousy aftermarket system that was in place before.
Original owners manual section 2-10 discusses the theft deterrent system. It says you can turn off the alarm by using the key to unlock a door, or by putting the key in the ignition. However, the "alarm" is the horn honking and the headlights going up and down. Quite disturbing if you do not know what is going on.
Kind of funny if you do.
