I have my gauge cluster out to repair the odometer, so I figure I'll replace all the gauge and warning lights. I don't want to go LED, while I can find the larger bulbs which there are 4 of, I can't find the smaller bulb. After pulling on the small bulb, I'm starting to think you have to buy it with the base, so it's important to get the right one. Anyone have the number of that bulb. Also the bulb sockets are brown, blue, and black. Are the bulbs different?
Since I recently went thru this when I changed out my cluster, all the little bulbs are the same. The bigger bulbs are the easy 921’s. The tiny little bulbs though.. I’ll have to take a look at the spare cluster I have. To double check the number.
Thanks Neo, I've also found the larger ones. The smaller ones, I think need to be bought with the base. I've tried to pull them out and no luck. I may have to go the LED route, unless you have a source.
Sorry it took so long.
The bulbs do come out. Base and light are seperate.
I tried to read the lettering on the bulb as best as I can. I think you can make it out and order the right ones.
I just did this and used these quantities. Went to SuperBrightLEDs.com and chose LEDs that would give me the closest to a 360deg light pattern as possible (I think for the smaller ones, they only had 270deg if I remember correctly). There are a few dull spots on the HVAC controls that I think would benefit from 1 more bulb on each dial (See David Hayes' build thread for info on that), but nothing is so dark where you can't see them at night.
Found it on Amazon, thanks for your help! Painting interior parts, replacing caps to fix the odometer, and replacing all the dash bulbs, it's taking forever.
So I replaced 1 bad odometer cap, the 1000 µf, the only one that was leaking, although I have all of them, I decided not to mess with the others. I replaced all of the bulbs, used a rubber jar top remover to get the bulbs out of the socket. I thought I'd plug the gauge cluster back in to check everything before I button it up. Odometer is fixed, all of the warning lights come on, but the larger lights, tach & speedo, are out, nor do the headlights come on. Could thIs be a function of the headlight popup switch not being plugged in? I have the four multipin connectors plugged in to the back of the gauge cluster.
