Needles lit up?

As part of the AT to MT conversion, we swapped out the gauge cluster with one from an MT (no Park, Reverse, etc indicator). I noticed that the needles dont glow. Is that just the way they are or is one of the plugs not connected right? I also swapped the old speedo into the new gauge cluster so the odometer would be correct. And the speedo's needle isn't lit either.

I dont know if they are or aren't supposed to be glowing, just noticed they werent and wondered.

Thx.

Well as far as I know, the light shines through the needles and numbers. So the lights must be burnt out?

I have a G35 coupe and the needles are lit up from inside. I can see the needles, but they don't glow on their own like my car's do. Again, I dont know if they are supposed to or not but I dont have another RX to compare to.

This is the G37's dash but you can see how the needles glow.

I don't remember any way for a lightsource from one of the bulbs on the back to get pumped thru the gauges to light up the needle so I'm guessing not. Just want to make sure I didn't screw anything up!

The needles do not glow from behind. They are not transparent Lexan like on most newer vehicles. They are "uplit" from a clear piece of plastic that gets it's light source from the bottom row of bulbs on the back of the cluster. You might be missing that plastic piece or have burned out bulbs. Also I recommend using #168 bulbs in all of the cluster locations. They are 50% brighter than the #158 oem bulbs.

Nope, the needles don't glow. If you can read the gauges in the dark, it's working.

Thanks. I didn't think they did but wanted to make sure. I'll look for those bulbs. Thanks for the tip!
